Hey guys!
Looking for what you would rate as the best Korean restaurant here in/around Richmond! Been craving it lately but since I moved I don't know what restaurants around here are like and looking for some opinions!
Korean is my all-time favorite cuisine and this place is my go-to. The building was formerly an old Red Lobster and still has some of that American chain restaurant look/vibe, but food & service, (including at-table bbq grill!) is authentic and wonderful. I haven’t been in a while; now I’m hungry.
Went there for the first time last night - I thought it was pretty good. Unlike Hot Pot 757, you can actually breathe in there because the tables all have vent hoods
Hotpot 757 is really good! They do hotpot as well as Korean BBQ. All you can eat.
I found this place pretty disappointing if I’m being honest. But I’m comparing it to Oegagib, kogiya, so, meat project, meokja meokja, etc etc.
Ate waaayyyy too much food here. It was all so delicious
Yewon on Hull st is excellent, staff is super nice as well and they sell the sides they serve as well
We like takeout from Seoul on Midlothian Tpk just before Robious Rd, and Korea Garden much closer in on Midlothian. We’ve not eaten in at either place but the food is great.
I have eaten in at Seoul and it is delicious! They also have a market attached to the building with unique finds.
So does Korean Garden, I always pick up some hot chili oil and gochujang when I’m at either place.
For cheap eats it’s noodles and friends , for a more traditional experience Yewon on Hull
I recommend Yewon, Korean Garden and Seoul Kitchen. Been about a year since my last Korean meal but we have enjoyed all three locations for years. Unfortunately I no longer live in Midlothian.
This makes me miss 88 Garden so bad.
Kogi on 2nd street has the absolute best kimbap I've ever had in my life. I usually eat most of a bibimbap bowl in store and have another meal of leftovers. Their kimchi pancakes are also really good.
New Grand Market.
Yewon & Noodle + Friends (Specifically for the jajyunmyeong) are your best bets. Korean Garden & Seoul market are OK if you don't want to hike out to Yewon. Hopefully we get some better quality Korean spots in the next few years
New Grand Mart. Both locations have a Noodle and Friends inside that sells pretty solid Korean (their mabo dofu is unfortunate tho). I would argue that since 88 Garden is gone (RIP), Grand Mart is the place to go. I think the Midlothian location specificaly is the best quality wise. These aren't sit down service restaurants. You order at a counter and can eat there or take it to go.
Havent been to Korean Garden in a while but it was sort of unimpressive to me. The owners were friendly as far as I remember, but just couldn't believe they were open right next to 88 Garden because it just didn't compete. The store that they have at the back of the restaurant is also somewhat limited, New Grand Mart has a bigger selection of Korean ingredients.
Yewon way out on Hull is also decent but it's a bit overpriced which is why I don't recommend it as much, plus it's a bit of a drive if you are in the city.
Not in and around Richmond but closer than northern Virginia (NOVA). MARU in downtown Charlottesville is some of the best Korean I’ve had, period. It’s worth the drive. About an hour.

Um... respectfully disagree. Maru was one of the worse korean restaurants I've had, unless they changed substantially since when I went in 2019. If OP wants proper korean food, the closest decent stuff is up by annandale and centreville. Nova basically. We're basically SOL here in richmond.
