Let’s face it, everyone in Midlothian is there against their will.

It's the multilevel burn achieved when incorporating your username that's the real hero here 👏

I rarely ever say this but I'm offended.

I guess the high housing prices don't really reflect this statement.

Wow this is pretty dark. My heart goes out to this woman & I hope she gets a fat check for her 12 years of forced labor.

$250k if she can collect it, I would bet that's enough for a few generations to live comfortably in Pakistan (e: where the average salary is <$500/month) if she goes back

$20,833 per year seems pretty low for back wages and doesn't even begin to skim the surface of the trauma associated with it.

No disagreements there, there's probably not a number high enough to fix what happened to this woman.

The family owns 2 homes in a nice, quiet neighborhood of Midlothian. I’m going to be incredibly disappointed in the justice system if there is nothing for the poor woman to collect given how much valuable property they own.

It’s just wild what goes on behind closed doors. I’ve walked into nice houses in great neighborhoods to discover people living in huts surrounded by trash. Then seen people who were super scared to tell us what’s going on, where legally all I can do is pass it to the proper authority.

About the hut?

It was basically 4 different women that didn’t know each other, living in tents, in the 4 bedrooms. Hoarder like conditions, showers not used in years like.

But the outside was well kept, no inclination of the conditions inside

Trust me, we did the same line of questioning. Not sure what led to that or the conditions. But, it was not like interacting with normal people at all. They had plumbing and running water, was not used, at least in the bathrooms. None of the bathrooms were accessible

No way someone didn’t know about this. I bet it was one of those “public secrets” of the neighborhood.

The woman was rarely allowed outside. The family has 2 houses across the street from each other and they are a fairly large family. A quiet woman with no English speaking skills who isn’t allowed outdoors wouldn’t get noticed unfortunately.

What about the dude she married that immediately took off? Isn't he complicit as well?
