Curious that this article describes the reception to this statue in 2003 as “mixed” when I distinctly remember significant protests against a statue of Lincoln that included a plane dragging a flag around the unveiling that if I recall correctly read “Sic Semper Tyrannus”. Or something to that effect anyway.

Probably just pure coincidence Booth shouted Virginia’s motto after assassinating Lincoln and a plane with those words was flying at the unveiling of this statue though.

Why?

“The statue was relocated, the National Park Service said, to make room for a proposed 7,500-seat amphitheater that is still in the planning stages.”

Thanks! I saw the story that the amphitheater project has been pushed back a year and didn't put two and two together.
