The tl;dr - this is for 3D printed edible objects (think cookies) and varies the density of the infill so that it a QR code appears when the object is backlit by a strong light source.

Insanely clever idea. Doesn't change the ingredients, taste or outward appearance of the food, although it does introduce a pattern of hollow and solid spots in the food, so I'd guess it could effect texture in some way.

I'm not sure what the advantage would be over embossing the code on the exterior, though. It'd definitely make for a neat variation on fortune cookie.

That inside can’t be modified without damage the food, it’s for safety/tracking.

Darn it, I was thinking we would eventual subsist on a diet of nothing but edible QR codes.
