I’ve heard horrendous reports of mass cetacean deaths due to war with Ukraine alone. Sonar is majorly disruptive to dolphins and whales. It’s criminal. It can make life unbearable for these beautiful intelligent creatures. Imagine having a really acute sense of sound and out of the blue something ambles up, emits a noise so loud it blows your eardrums. The sound continues, with more sources showing up. It continues until you and everyone you hold dear are so distressed they jump in the sea and drown themselves in an attempt to escape it. It sickens me that sonar is permitted.

I am convinced that noise is responsible for a lot more marine die-offs than we realize. I once read an article about codfish using sound, but when the journalists tried to record it, they couldn't due to the human-made noise in the ocean. I would not be surprised if this contributed to the collapse of stocks off Newfoundland, which coincidentally(?) happened just as offshore oil exploration began on the breeding grounds.
