And it brings up an idea to me. What if our real problem with recognizing AI is just that we're not as smart as we think we are? In other words, we have a problem recognizing sentience because when we see it in something else it seems so simple.
Maybe we're just too close to the problem.

We’re not as smart as we think. We can hardly increase our intelligence. We aren’t all that general either.

The first AI that is better than a human at pretty much everything will really cement this. There will be a lot of coping.
