Suppose we create an AGI which has access to tons of knowledge but isn't very creative and isn't too intelligent, what would we gain?

Would a 'person' stuck in a box full of (virtual) books be useful to us .. even if it could 'think' many times faster than a human?

But how will we afford it if we’re all living off our measly UBI?

The same way we can afford other life saving medicine. Live in a country with good social policy and laws.

Go draw a military pension. You're immortal and hyper-intelligent now, what's left to be chicken about?

Construction and maintenance.

Imagine a myriad of small robots doing repetitive tasks without much decision making.

Also making more worker robots, possibly with in situ materials off planet for future space missions.

Also any other tasks that humans routinely do and fail like driving, piloting and diagnosing diseases. No fatigue, lazy shortcuts and talentless hacks would reduce mortality in many areas.

Depends if the AI is smart enough to drive a car or not. That itself would be very impactful.

It would very quickly become super intelligent since it could build increasingly better versions of itself.

AGI is a misnomer. It is super-intelligent from the beginning in many areas and the potential/risk is unmitigated exponential growth or work. Imagine a huge organization of a million employee's being at your beck and call. Lots of people wouldn't really know how to take advantage of that potential power, but some will.

Custom ai driven Linux kernel with two the same ai’s but with different philosophy. And ai operating system, crypto. And base ai for robots.

Then development plans to develop:

-replicator

-medi-bay
