Many in academia and industry face the same question: Should I spend time trying to find a solution S to some problem P, or should I work on an AI system that can find a solution S' to any problem P' from a set of problems that P belongs to? Add to that the fact that computers are getting super fast ... Hence the explosion of AI papers.

For real dealing with that right now. One way or another, I'm going to have to make some software to do this thing. Do I want a fairly okay solution right now, which I can iterate on and easily explain/justify why my solution is roughly correct, OR dump some resources into machine learning, have nothing to show for it up until I do, but very likely get something on the other end which is almost magically good but I don't know why...
