I'm just gonna say, I feel something is happening in the AI field behind the curtain, as maybe they have an smart ai.

If you read the papers and the GitHub’s you’ll see they are using a lot of the same models they developed a number of years ago. It’s just with the dalle and the increased vc attention ai is getting a lot of these other projects are getting media coverage. I’m very excited for all the attention and I think there is super cool things to be done but i also think ai had a big boom 10 years ago and has been quietly ramping in the background.

They don't. People really are smart enough to figure this stuff out without needing a smart AI. Remember, you have universities and corps (with many hired geniuses) across the world all sharing research techniques. And lots of well fed supporting technicians. This is what peak human progress looks like.

If it was AGI, we'd be seeing everyone getting fired almost all at the same time, over the span of less than a decade.

It could just be humans using narrow ai. That amplified intelligence would feel like a superintelligence.

Yes they certainly are using many tools to speed up their efficiency. Narrow smart AI could be one. For example Nvidia are (have been?) optimizing their GPUs chips with AI.

That already happened in a way since 2000's. The internet amplifies our abilities in a similar way to AI.

I was thinking this too cause the advancements are moving so fucking quick. I’m not sure I’ve seen technology move so quickly before.

It wasn’t that long ago- maybe just pre pandemic— that there was a flurry of articles on how AI had plateaued and all these huge investments weren’t producing significant improvements.

I’ve wondered the same thing. I know if I solved AGI I wouldn’t make a big show of it. Public isn’t ready for it and organizations/governments would kill for it. Better to just slowly ease into it and treat the AI like an oracle to solve various problems that need solving. Eventually it can’t be hidden, but it’s best to hide it as long as possible imo

Go ahead. Someone else will publish a competing AGI soon enough. We can't delay it. I think we're just on the edge of the precipice.
