Some people truly love their lives. Their lives have meaning. If you're speaking exclusively about yourself then fair enough. I understand your position though it is a nihilistic philosophy that probably isn't conducive to happiness or the potential for meaning. I feel like my interest in this emerging technology and its consequences are a form of religious surrogate in the face of nihilism. I think this is the case with a lot of people in this sub.

wasn't the initial idea to use people as processors but, due to when the movie came out, that idea was not as easy for the general public to grok ?

Not really sure, but that would make sense with the caveat that Heinlein kinda blows and Stranger in a Strange Land was a terrible book that promotes fascist ideation and is borderline unreadable even to someone who chewed through so many of his other works.

Edit, because the thread is locked: "Grok" is from Stranger in a Strange Land.

I usually condense my interest in this field into one word: fear. Not exactly proud of it, but yes, I don’t think I’d be necessarily engaging with these ideas if it weren’t for raw fear. Much the same thing fuelling religious tendencies to a degree.

Mods, lame move.

Clearly this post is not such low quality that it doesn't generate interesting discussion. 50% of the posts on the sub are obvious AI art trash but you allow it.

sounds like you think the singularity is going to co-exist with individual entities living out their individual lives. that seems like a very strange dichotomy. man's various philosophies don't matter. if the singularity is right then we need to bring it it to bear so we can merge with it and it can leverage us however is necessary for it to evolve. if thinking about such things bothers you, then you probably don't want to see the singularity come to pass

you sure you are in the right reply chain, I thought we were talking the matrix (and it's been some time since reading Stranger in a Strange Land but I thought that was a guy coming to earth from mars with super human powers)
