Really good podcast on this subject that's right up your alley just came out 2 days ago.
Lomborg was also just on the JRE to discuss the same thing.
He points out simple things like "Fracking is obviously not ideal, but it's less damaging than coal and is the fastest way to get people off of coal." Paraphrasing exactly what he said, but it is a stepping stone to lower emissions despite the net damage it may do, it is less than the net damage of coal plants.
I'm more of the mind of someone like Randal Carlson. Sure we may have an effect on the environment but an asteroid is far more likely to destroy the earth's environment.
The over-all assertion is that it is far better to invest in tech breakthroughs related to emissions and energy generation than it is to do a lot of the measures prescribed by the authorities that be on this subject. "We're wasting trillions of dollars for solutions that may only net a small benefit."
