How would someone "cheat in homework" by using Wikipedia? Honest question. I always thought that the concerns about using Wikipedia were more related to the lack of sources (or the use of unreliable sources) instead of cheating.

It was true though, when I was in high school in the same period we couldn't use wikipedia at all. Also because many articles didn't have sources. It was quite the wild west in it's early stages. We also had teachers that said you have to go to the library. Especially the older teachers were basically against any website or online source. At the time we didn't even know what Google was in our country.

The best way to use it is write a draft for an outline. Run it through and get chapGPT's thoughts. See if it can improve your outline. Then ask it to build your essay using your outline and to use brackets asking for you to input a source for specific claims throughout the paper. Go back ask it to change parts you don't like. Manual edit some other stuff and add in your in text citations wherever there are brackets and viola you have a factually correct paper that makes all the points you wanted to make in a third or less the time.

Song these lines I was thinking about how this can be used to closely imitate certain styles of writing/authors etc. setting aside the obvious issue of straight up imposters, what about established authors who write serial series just using this, or training one on their work plus inspiration work, feeding it a plot idea and going to town…?

It doesn't have to be an A+ student, it just has to clear 60% on web exams for me to pass (all my exams are permanently web based regardless of covid).
And it does, with no help at all.
If AI is going to take the job i haven't gotten yet, i think it's completely fair play if it helps me get the software engineering degree i maybe won't have much use for anyway.
