Unless there's scientific discoveries not immediately obvious that would facilitate a quicker development of AI.

More in regards to biology and medical discoveries. (Super complex interactions between organic compounds and proteins etc), just way beyond something like particle physics in terms of predicting outcomes.

Real world =/= video game tech tree. You can't simply assign "research" toward a goal.

Wym bro just put the AI science in the lab instead of the military or production science. Factorio reference, anybody?

Can relate. I had it at 80-ish% when the Persian player invaded with mangs and those damn Elite Elephants. Wrecked my TC in 20 seconds.

Possibly, but I think that you need “pillars” to support the “building” were trying to make. If we never optimized smart phone cameras and the internet I don’t think we would have the proper infrastructure to train our current AI models.

I would far prefer more people get into alignment, well at least the important kind (paperclip output) not the distraction (problematic output)

As the planet then light cone gets turned into paperclips an AI 'alignment' researcher can at least warm themselves with the thought that "well at least the AI never said a bad word"

It’s not a funding or time issue. It’s just that there’s too little people interested in studying 10+ years for a career in AI.

Its not that long for adjacent careers but like we’re already making good money and its better to slow roll most change. The pace of progress is already causing the townsfolk to gather pitchforks, it’s on us to demonstrate how it’ll make their lives better… which takes time and application of the tech.

Ideally we start pumping out media content at an insane rate.
