Get a direct brain interference and it won't matter, it'll be possible to seamlessly go from one to the other.

The only reason a distinction is made at this time is due to technology limitations.

True, but you don't need one for AR and well I agree that VR requires it.

Current AR is horrible, the laws of optics ensure it will always be horrible so long as we're stuck trying to make AR work through glasses on faces.

(Though IMHO we could get useful AR if the industry focused on making simpler solutions, unfortunately all the less ambitious but more realistic consumer AR companies are out of business now)

VR works well enough, and if displays can increase dpi some more while dropping prices, it may even grow its audience some.
