Someone will buy it for the right price. Personally I’d like a little metal plaque at the bottom with perhaps some info on the location

I love it, I want one. How do I keep it dust free? Wait, it's the moon, dust is part of the art. Perfect, I'll take 2.

Nice work! Is this an actual region on the Moon, or just an artistic interpretation of a random moonscape?

brucekine t1_isltibu wrote

This is awesome, my gf loves the moon and something like this would make for a brilliant present. Do you have an Etsy or a site?

Edit: just checked your bio, hope you make more of this!

fariqcheaux t1_islvepf wrote

Cool concept! Maybe do other moons like Enceladus too?

Rabid-Chiken t1_islybxr wrote

It reminds me of the ceiling in my parent's house. Which makes me think that this would look awesome on my ceiling!

aguaphor t1_ism4ptx wrote

If it weren’t for the craters I would have thought this was a piece of a popcorn ceiling

Edit: be careful with asbestos kids

seXJ69 t1_isltwmf wrote

I think it would be cool to do wall tiles like this, maybe in a kitchen or bathroom backsplash.

melindseyme t1_ism17ai wrote

Can you imagine trying to clean them though??

8

seXJ69 t1_ism1p1b wrote

Yea, but the cool factor would outweigh the PITA factor.

Many_many_bees t1_ism9b6s wrote

Super dope!! People would pay good money for this!!

rditusernayme t1_islvtb8 wrote

Saw you post this before... Didn't make the waves you were hoping for?

GarunixReborn t1_ism3n1i wrote

More like "wanting to post space themed art in the space subreddit"

rditusernayme t1_isn90fd wrote

I was just trying to be punny, I don't know the sub's rules. Although, I wouldn't guess r/space was for fan art, maybe that's just the purist scientist in me

4

aarontminded t1_isoo4pb wrote

It’s been posted pretty regularly of late, just picking a new sub each time it seems.

Abysskitten t1_isnq38q wrote

It's cool, would imagine hellish to keep clean.

You should make a table like this and pour resin over it.

3

SatansMoisture t1_islrnkw wrote

It's beautiful. It reminds me of decades of hands on skills in creating special effects for movies that are now lost because of computer graphics. Well done!

Congozilla t1_isnd64n wrote

Yes, nice work. I like the way the craters are all about equal in depth. That's just the way craters happen up there. Here on Earth, craters happen different. As in, the bigger the rock, the deeper the crater. Just, not on the moon. And, no one knows why.

2

mincecraft__ t1_iso9sd9 wrote

That’s not true. Craters on the moon are all different sizes and depths. It’s completely dependent on the impact or and the surface being impacted. Tycho crater is 4800m in depth where as Picard crater is 2400m in depth.

6

Congozilla t1_isrxtx5 wrote

Well okay, but to my eyes, that issue over crater depth looks freaky and real. Every time I see a pic of moon craters I'm reading the same thing - - Equal depth. Just look at 'em! - - There they are - - Equal depth. In that TV show, "For all mankind," craters seemed to vary in depth at times, but in real life photos and accurate renditions like the one displayed above - - I keep seeing 'em all about equal in depth.

The astronauts gonna be bewildered when they see someone cut a square tile out of the moon!

2

DutchCarFan t1_isothz0 wrote

Oh wow this is very nice, if you could make it high resolution plus a name tag of location It should sell for a good price 😁

2

cwthree t1_islydw0 wrote

I like it. Is this cast, sculpted, 3-d printed? Ceramic, metal, or plastic?

1

pistacio814sb t1_ism1ftu wrote

I want one. If you decide to sell them then would you let me know? Or do you have an Etsy?

1

Ill_Impact7225 t1_ismjxht wrote

It looks exactly like the piece of metal that was punched over and over again by MONKEY D LUFFY in wano arc in udon Thats what it reminds me of

1

Petal_Chatoyance t1_ismp1ym wrote

Take it off the wall, put it on the table, grab some wargaming figures and some dice.

That is my thought on this.

1

WastedTaxes t1_ismrlz5 wrote

make it sound absorbing and jack the price up by 800%, then it will sell

1

banished-kitsune t1_ismt0pv wrote

It looks pretty smoot it might need a layer of fine grey sand or dusting but it looks awsome!!

pittyh t1_isn0pj1 wrote

Make a mold of it, mass produce it as bathroom tiles :D

1

dubvision t1_isnh84d wrote

I think you could sell it my friend and make good money : ) .

You could make different ones with other moon spots and the coordinates info

1

freckleddeerborn t1_isns90q wrote

I’m a space nerd and would totally ask for this for Christmas!

1

Combatpigeon96 t1_isnto7n wrote

I’d totally buy one if the price was reasonable!

1

Plutonic-Planet-42 t1_isnukxe wrote

Pretty cool. Would love to see a mold made so you could just stamp em out.

(There must be 3D scans of the moon that could just be printed)

1

Leeejone t1_isnuphi wrote

Honestly, the site of the lander would be very cool like this. Toss a raised piece of etched glass over the top with etchings to pinpoint the lander, farthest transit, etc. engraved “plague” at the bottom of the glass, I’d buy it.

citrios t1_isogfto wrote

This actually is so cool. My nephew would LOVE this.

This may be the answer to a problem I've been working on for a while. I've built a highly detailed model of the Apollo 17 lander, crew and rover. The kit that was produced by Dragon Models comes with a base that looks like the moon's surface small micro meteorite impacts and so forth. The problem is when the decent stage engine was firing near the surface it wiped away any micrometeorite impacts and smoothed the surface out. After the astronauts and I stepped out onto the surface there would be hundreds of footprints where they walked around the craft unloading various pieces of equipment and then driving around in the lunar rover. With some of the original photographs I may be able to make a map of everywhere they walked and build that into a 3D model. Thank you so much.
