I think it does matter. It shouldn’t matter, but it needs to matter until we get there. To the, uh, place where all men are created (equitably and with the generational opportunity to be) equal.

We won’t see progress until 2 white cornerbacks face off in a Super Bowl

Ironically the Redskins won the Super Bowl with the great Doug Williams.

I think the issue is very often Black Qb’s play the position more with their legs than their arms. Hurts ran for three tds last night. Lamar also has been setting records for his rushing attack. The issue with this is they get hurt more or are inconsistent. Case and point, Lamar has been injured a lot over the last few seasons. Most qb’s can’t take that wear and tear and have the endurance to make a Super Bowl. Maholmes and Wilson are exceptions though but if anything they use their legs to extend plays instead of relying on their rushing to open the defense.

Honest question. Mahomes is half black, right? If the game was played against the Chargers would they say it was 2 white quarterbacks facing off? I get the significance of having 2 black QBs in the superbowl, but is Patrick Mahomes always black or is he sometimes considered white?

Idk - I read an article a while back that had mixed people always be considered the minority. If you're mixed in a majority black population, you're considered the race that isn't black. Mahomes would be white in nigeria, but black in usa. Idk if this still holds true. Same with Obama and all that.

Why does it matter? Whether you want to believe it or not, on a local level there was a mindset that blacks didn't have the mental capacity to be quarterbacks. Because of that, young black players were often guided to other positions. If they expressed interest in the position as they got older, they'd have to compete with players who had been quarterbacks their entire lives.

Quarterbacks on young teams are often sons of coaches, and there's historically been a dearth of black coaches because of the same thought process that impacted players.

There were never more than 12 black quarterbacks in the NFL in any season before 2000.

Ask again why it matters.

I don't know why people are negative about this story? It's a great article and this feels like a big deal imo.

People are negative in this sub because a lot of American football fans are racist. just take a look at the comments being upvoted and which ones are being downvoted

I never thought I would see the day the black QBs would be the future. After years of Mike Vick-types and them only being runners. I remember thinking the RPO was a phase like the Wildcat. Happy its succeeding and people never got phased when morons labeled them a runningback.
