Exactly. But it is wrestling, so no one cares.

Well, maybe I should have said it differently. As a former HS and college wrestler myself ,I understand how big this is. So yes, dozens is right.

For those uneducated - why is this a big deal?

Only four men in history have won four national titles in NCAA wrestling history.

Spencer Lee was thought of as a “lock” to become the fifth. Hadn’t lost a match in 2+ years, was on a crazy 50+ match win streak. Nobody was coming close to beating him in the last few years and he was smoking people left and right.

He beat the pants of this guy earlier in the year. This was only the semifinals and Lee got pinned. This is being considered one of the biggest (if not the single highest) upsets in college wrestling history.

I was watching with my wife last night and she asked: “is this like Michael Phelps losing a swim race?” I looked at her and said: “it’s more like Phelps drowning…”

In terms of the monkeys paw, this guy won a national championship for Purdue the same day that their men’s basketball team, the top ranked team in the country, get beat in the championship tournament by the lowest ranked team who only made in it due to a technicality.

So the monkeys paw was all the fans of Purdue wishing for a national championship. They got it, in wrestling, but the cost was their basketball team suffering the biggest upset in tournament history

They didn't get it. He lost in the final

God said that Purdue could win in basketball or wrestling, but not both. Purdue told God to decide for them. God looked at his brackets and made his decision.

The universe is in balance. For wrestling fans this is as big an upset as the basketball team one.

He was going for his 4th NCAA title in a row. Purdue hasn’t even won one title, let alone 3 in a row.

Wish wrestling got more coverage. Such an underrated sport. Love it in the Olympics
