Almost as insane as the decision to pull your closer with two outs in the 9th to put in your starter who is fresh off getting rocked by the Jay's two days ago, to face their best hitter who hits even better off lefties

Go stros, I was there and the stadium was on fire. Never personally witnessed such joy and excitement from a crowd. Yordan of course being himself, what an experience.

Bunch of cheaters tbh
DrDoG00d t1_is1zwbu wrote
Nailed it. Even if they’re not cheating today, once a cheater always a cheater. Put that asterisk next to that championship. Players get em, why can’t teams?
Oh no I’m getting downvoted!!! What will I ever do with myself? /s keep ‘em coming cheaters!

I used to follow baseball but I can’t understand the title.

I know practically nothing about baseball, but I THINK it means: The Mariners switched their pitcher to the starter pitcher (whatever that means, the first pitcher? idk). He then threw this pitch that the Astros duder hit a home run, resulting in 3 points which meant they won. The coach(?) that decided on the pitcher switch is prolly sweating bullets
Quixotegut t1_is1btg4 wrote
You're pretty right.
Starting pitchers aren't Closers. Starters are built for longevity with an array of pitches. Closers built to handle a small amount of batters, hopefully just 3, by throwing hard and fast.
Normally you do not throw in a Starter at the end of the game unless you're racked with injury... or you have no trust in your bullpen (slang for the non-starting group of pitchers)...
Walking off means to win the game, usually when behind in score or tied, at the last chance to do so in the inning before you either lose or stay tied and go to the next inning.
So, yeah, Mariners manager (coach) decided to throw a Starter in, in the hopes that he could work this dangerous batter, but paid for it by the aforementioned batter "going yard" (hitting a homerun).
The Mariners manager is definitely going to hear about it.

What terrible bullpen management by Servais. Mariners had that game.
Bummer. Astros can go burn in a garbage fire. Don't care how talented you are, once a cheater always a cheater. Asterisk it all.
YOURMOMMASABITCH t1_is0xmen wrote
You do realize Yordan wasn't on the team in 2017 right?
SadCryBear t1_is14whv wrote
True. Only a third of their starting lineup is known cheaters.
A third cheaters is completely reasonable.

If the dodgers had won and you found out they cheated while playing you, you wouldn’t be saying this. That’s also notably known as a hypocrite, how’s it feel?

Actually just plain fucking stupid to pitch to idk the best batter on the team when they could take a base.
merlin401 t1_iryl3qs wrote
Well intentionally putting the tying run in scoring position and lead run on base to face a very clutch playoff star who just homered last at bat isn’t an obvious call by any means.
Bringing in Ray was dumb though
TheFlyingSpaghetti77 t1_irypvj7 wrote
I mean if its that or throw a meatball down the middle, I’m walking him
merlin401 t1_iryqx2t wrote
Obviously. I agree pitch carefully like there is a base open but the plan should be to try to get him out
Mandy-Rarsh t1_irylfm4 wrote
Your not going to load the bases in that situation.
TheFlyingSpaghetti77 t1_irypyc9 wrote
I mean we just saw what happens when you pitch to the teams best hitter so yeah id walk him, dude has the second best slugging pct this year.
scrapsbypap t1_irz6gb6 wrote
Hindsight is 20/20. Outcome ≠ proof it was the wrong move. A single by Alvarez would have possibly brought the game within one. You walk him, Bregman singles, and it's probably tied.
