Left the Dutch unmarked too many times in the box; awesome effort in the second half, hats off gents 🧢

I know it's infuriating but you guys are playing attacking football against netherlands with a mls defender and 35 years old who played for fulham as centerbacks.

Tactical naivety doesn't help the underdog usa against a better team.

When you're the underdog, you want to increase the variance. Attacking is the correct call I think.

Sure but completely neglecting to play defense is absurd. No hustle from a team that, given the focus on their youth, should be able to run.

Absolutely 100% agree and it really stings that this is so painfully obvious to us watching from the couch but Berhalter (who was hired because he’s the brother of one of the guys on the selection committee… nepotism) is absolutely in his own head and ego. American coaches all think they’re the next second coming and the ego just outweighs their tactical ability. Van Gaal wasn’t even breaking a sweat. He exposed Berhalter and the entire USA Soccer Federation.

They have problems all the way down to the youth level and it shows. We won’t be winning any world cups soon.

Congratulations to the US team for going from out of the tournament 4 years ago to the Round of 16 this year. Congratulations to the Netherlands for showing why they are a potential world champion every 4 years.

You cannot possibly understand how big of a scar this scores. We should have won in 1974, with Johan Cruijff against Germany. We should have won in 2010 as well, against Spain. But we didn't. If there's a tierlist of chokers, we're at the top.

I mean, Spain was much better in 2010. That Robben chance though..

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

We (the US) didn't deserve it at all. The Dutch dictated the pace of the game the entire time.

Best headline I’ve seen so far. “Soccer is out of Football World Cup.”

Hats off to the US team for coming this far. You guys need to get rid of that long haired dude in your defense. Absolutely horrible game by him.

How’d you feel about the goalkeeper? As a non football watcher he looked kind of bad.

Adi_San t1_iyw5b4g wrote

He wasn't great but there is only so much a goalkeeper can do. The big issue for me was the defense who were completely apathetic. It was enraging to watch as I was rooting for the US. I thought if US went far this world cup it would get you guys more into the sport which would be good for the sport in general.

The offense was pretty decent, you are just lacking a forward with a killer instinct to get the ball in (a couple big misses there!).

Louis Van Gaal had a tactical masterclass. Just gave the ball to the US who didn’t know what to do with it. They would chase you if you have the ball and create chances from there but they can’t break down defences like the big teams
