I have no doubt that Alabama would beat TCU, OSU, and Michigan.
And you earn your chance to show it during the regular season. They didn’t do that.
Edit: need to clarify that the “they” above is bama. They didn’t earn their chance.

If Alabama was that good they wouldn’t have lost twice. I’m not so sure they would beat any of the teams in the playoff. Hell they could barely beat a backup QB Texas team by 1 point.

Let’s not confuse the losses with “not being good.” Their 2 losses were on the road by a combined 4 points—both on the final plays of the game. They’re a good football team that was beat by good football teams playing in the toughest conference.
Again, those losses prevented their chance at the playoff (as it should), but to leave it at losses=bad is misguided.

They’re a good team, definitely. I said they’re not that good where a reasonable person would have no doubt that they’d beat all the playoff teams other than Georgia. Those are two very different things. They lost to LSU and Tennessee, of course they could lose to any of the playoff teams. They clearly didn’t establish themselves as a dominant team. Like I said, barely beat a shorthanded Texas team. This years Bama team isn’t the same as years’ past.

Alabama lost twice. If Alabama loses once, they get in, probably over Ohio State and TCU. Live by the SEC die by the SEC. SEC teams get the benefit of the doubt, even if they have a loss on their record, but they have to earn that by playing an SEC schedule. But you can't lose twice and still expect to get in. As you say, you earn your chance during the regular season and Alabama didn't do that.

Not sure if you’re agreeing or disagreeing with my post. I literally said that Alabama didn’t prove their worth for the chance to play in the playoff, so it doesn’t matter if I think they’d beat the other playoff teams.

Apologies. Your post made it sound like you didn't think TCU, OSU, and Michigan earned it.

Well OSU may be up for debate more than others. But no, Michigan and TCU have definitely earned it. I think that Alabama would beat them, but bama didn’t earn the opportunity.
I don’t like the “best team” debate. If on field results aren’t going to matter, why even play the games?
