For some context, this is the equal-seventh lowest score in any format of professional cricket, and the lowest total in 40 years. All other totals equal or worse are from before the First World War.

In the BBL, the competition these teams compete it, the previous lowest score was 57.

Henry Thorntons bowling figures were 5 for 3 off 2.5 overs. More wickets than runs conceded. how many times would that have happened ever?

For extra context, 15 runs for one person is considered not good you're a batter. Now imagine 11 of these people combined to score that.

Omg they didn't even last 6 overs.

  • 5 runs, 1 wicket
  • 2 runs, 2 wickets
  • 2 runs, 2 wickets
  • 0 runs, 1 wickets
  • 5 runs, 2 wickets
  • 1 run, 2 wickets

How to explain this. Ummm. Remember in the Mr Bean movie when he sneezes on Whistler's Mother and then rubs the painting with an ink soaked handkerchief spreading ink everywhere and then uses paint remover to remove the ink resulting in destroying the painted head of Whistler's Mother and Mr Bean uses a ball point pen to drew the head back on? This was more incompetent.

15?! Did the batsmen just launch their bats at the stumps and get themselves out?

29

WakeUpMareeple OP t1_j0gc1nv wrote

They'd probably have scored more if they'd tried that. It was mostly just outside edges through to the keeper, or the slips, or the gully...

StupidMastiff t1_j0gcxlk wrote

Fucking crazy, it doesn't seem possible for professionals to get so few runs.

Corey_Treverson420 t1_j0gni47 wrote

To be fair to Sydney, Thornton and then Agar put on a bowling masterclass…but those first 4 wickets really did the damage, after that it was a cleanup operation and the lower order batsmen nervous as hell were just dabbing at deliveries and the slips cleaned up

The richmond tigersbrisbane broncos finished ninth again

In any season you will see it is our fate

To miss out on the 8

We win a few then lose a lot

And then it is too late

Cause we're down the drain

We've never been much good since 1982 2006

Don't worry about it, Im an eels fan. At this rate I'll be lucky for my great grandchildren to see a premiership

That was absolutely ridiculous. A world record lowest score by any professional team in any format. A great job from the bowlers and backed up by some brilliant fielding.

5m1tm t1_j0kd8i9 wrote

This is actually the joint 7th-lowest total in all of professional cricket (if you count the domestic tournaments of each country in all formats since the beginning of professional cricket). All the other lower scores (or equally low scores) were before WW I or something like that. I read this somewhere, so idk how true it is but assuming it is true, this is actually the lowest score in entire professional cricket in the last 100+ years, which is bad enough. Absolutely shit performance lmao.

Best context: this is their highest-scoring batter's whole innings. (If you think it looked like it shouldn't really have deserved to have done anything... I'm kinda with you on that one.)
