The Seahawks were the 7th seed so the expanded playoffs have no bearing on the stat.

It completely changed the seeding.

There were no byes before this.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly. Did it used to be 1 seed and 2 seed get byes? For some reason I thought 1 played 6.

You're right that back when it was six teams the #1 and #2 seeds got byes. Now only the #1 seed gets the bye. So this year's seeding would have worked out as Eagles at #1 get a bye. Then SF (#2) plays Seattle (#7). #3 Vikings play #6 Giants, #4 TB get #5 Cowboys. This got the three NFC east teams into the Divisional. I think the same games #3 through #6 would have been played with the old format.

So the #1 Eagles and #2 Niners would've had the bye, Seahawks don't get in. Matchups still would've been #3 Vikings hosting #6 Giants, and #4 Bucs hosting #5 Cowboys. Things would've been EXACTLY the same going into the divisional round in the old format.
