America's media darling loses and its still all about her. Wish these writers would talk about people other than Gauff and Raducanu so these 8 week a year fans would learn about some other players.

I also wish the media would stop covering the young, up and coming players with so much fervor. I know it's super exciting to cover the next "insert legend's name" but let Coco or whoever just be themself and play their game. It adds too much pressure and then narratives are pushed.

I'll be the first to admit Russel Wilson was a mistake. That has nothing to do with what's going on. I don't upvote posts about the donkies losing in a sub that doesn't care.

It’s not really possible though.

Players benefit from publicity. The issue is always how much publicity. This is an impossible thing to regulate.

If Magazine A is “allowed” to write a story about the next bit thing, and if that story proves to have commercial interest, of course Magazine B wants to write it. It’s a case of 100 small bites eating the whole apple.

Women’s tennis can use more characters and less ice princesses (sharapova, Bouchard, Giorgi) and actual (high maintenance) princesses. One of the things that was great with Emma/Leylah a few summers ago

On the men’s side, it’s sad that Rafa, Murray likely to be retired soon and I think Novak will only play as long as he continues to win which is short-lived at best, the kids are on fire

I met her when I worked in the players’ lounge at the Rogers Cup. She is amazing. So humble. Her dad is so sweet and supportive too. I truly get Williams energy off her. Players like Coco really show the path and legacy the Williams have made to empower young black girls to play tennis.

This, this turned me off to coco three years ago when they couldn’t stop fawning over her and telling us she IS a future champion. Nothing to do with coco herself but I’ve been around long enough to see all these future American stars never win at the highest level.

I couldn't possibly agree with you more. I don't follow tennis at all, but this has been happening in the NFL especially (you could say it's always been like this l, but the point stands).

Take Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes for example. Both seemingly very likeable people who have the ability to play at the highest level in their field. I also don't have a team that's a rival with them, so I'm not biased to hate them lol

However I dread watching them nowadays because the announcers won't stop hyping them up and talking about how "Any play could be the greatest play ever with guys like this!" and "Oh man, everything they do is so unprecedented! They make it look so easy, so it'll only get better!" until you eventually find yourself rooting for them to fail. The announcers deify them until they're completely unrelatable and unfun to watch, so you cheer for whoever they're against just to feel like the outcome isn't predetermined.

I know. I was making a point about the tendency of some female players to think they need to emulate Sharapova’s on Court attitude. Sorry if I didn’t clarify the obvious and give you some superior thing you need to express
