I've been shopping at Hippos on S. Glenstone for a year and a half. Since Rec went live last weekend, the shop now hosts a 30-45 minute wait in line, prior to entering. Their inventory is completely wiped out, and you almost now have to 'take what you can get' like its a black market sale.

I have a Med card for anxiety. One of my triggers is waiting in large groups of strangers. Somedays I can handle it, other days it could send me into a severe panic attack. If I'm standing in a dispo, there is a good chance that I'm in need of medicine for my condition. Waiting in line for almost an hour is not an option for me.

I've heard that Good Day Farms West, and Greenlight are now operating using 2 lines of customers. One is for Rec users, the other is for Med card holders - who get served before Rec users. (this is the way)

I'll likely never visit Hippos again, but was curious if anyone knows of any other shops in town who are allowing their Med card customers to 'skip the rec line'?

You must not remember when the first dispensaries opened in MO.

There was a wait line wrapped around the building, and sold out for the week within a few hours.

Inventory will be become more readily available in time and the wait time will relax once people get their stash and the novelty wears off

Many are projecting rec use will outweigh medical use by the end of the year (or sooner) though.

Hippos has always been great to me, but i stocked up before rec became legal and haven't even tried to stop at dispensary since, so could be different now.

Good Day Farm's is fantastic, they are really considerate to their customers and both managers at both locations are great people. I'd give them a try for sure.

I believe you are correct. I've always enjoyed Hippos, but I'm just disappointed in their lack of consideration, especially since other shops in town are proceeding this way with 2 customer lines. One method seems 'compassionate' vs the other way which seems like 'a cash grab' to me.

Why are places not delivering weed? This is a serious question too, is it not legal to do that? Dispensaries having delivery people like pizza places would be sick.

Let's be real for a second.

  1. Businesses are a cash grab. Thays all they are. That is WHY they exist. That isn't to say there aren't benevolent owners with good intentions in the world; but the PURPOSE of a business, any business, is to maximize profit.

  2. The med card thing is joke. I thought I got scammed. It was a single zoom call, I paid with a card by phone and then they connected me. LITERALLY from the time we I teoduced ourselves to the time the phone call was over, 58 seconds. Not an exaggeration.

He asked what ailments I had, I had a paper I had typed out for reference, I said I get headaches, he cut me off "medicinal marijuana has been shown to treat headaches, I think we can sign off on this"

Of the 12 people I know with med cards, probably 2...MAYBE 3.... use it for legitimate reasons; everyone else viewed it as a weed tax.

I haven't seen it in person, because I haven't been since it went rec, but I've heard they sell med at bit of discount than rec...same product, different pricing.

If thats true, from a business perspective, doesn't make sense to give up extra revenue while also potentially alienating (what is expected to be) the bulk of your customer base.

Both Bloom and Greenlight have a drive-thou option, Bloom being my fav. Order online, pick up in the drive thru, no lines no crowds.

I think I have seen that service offered from Route 66 before, but I do not know if they still offer it now since Rec has gone live. I remember considering doing it in the past but talked myself out of it when I realized the cost. Think Grubhub/Doordash price markups, on your already highly taxed purchase. I didn't think it was worth the cost at the time. Perhaps I should reconsider it, now?

goldencrisp t1_j7s846e wrote

Old Route 66 has pick up, drive through, and delivery.

E: To add, they have an app that lets you pick out what you want and how you wish to get it through the mentioned above. You can obviously just walk on in but ordering ahead of time and hitting the drive through has been super smooth even with rec going live.

assault_alt OP t1_j7s8gv8 wrote

I've not visited Bloom before. Its always empty when I drive by it. I did see a post in one of the MO MJ subreddits the other day saying that the day Rec went live, Bloom decided to stop offering reward points for purchases, including going so far as to lock and not honor the active reward balances on customer's wallets that had been building points via previous purchases. I'm not certain if that is 'true' or not (the person posting was livid), but if so, I don't want to support a business that would act in that manner.

Good day west was great. When I walked in there was about 10 people ahead of me and I was the first person called back. I’m sure it’s frustrating but all the med patients have been there done that :)

loveOpossum t1_j7s8snb wrote

I don’t know anything about all that, I’ve just had a good experience myself there being a repeat customer, specifically with the online ordering and drive-thru. They used to have an amazing rewards program they changed a couple months back, but I haven’t been since rec kicked in.

I know when they rolled out rec in illinois they made it so medical patients were served first, so it is possible and honestly i think the right thing to do. Missouri clearly didnt care.

It should calm down before too long. People are excited so it’s been busy. I would recommend Farmers wife and preorder. If you order is ready you will be first in line and not need to wait much after check in. Best of luck

To be clear the state of Missouri didn't want rec THC at all; thats why no bill ever left committee and why the petition initiative was used, to circumvent the state of missouri.

If you're saying it was shitty of the voters to approve the bill without that consideration, I'd say we're lucky it passed at all; the first red state to legalize rec use nationwide.

And let's be honest, 90%+ of med users were just using the med card as a license for rec.

I imagine many “rec” users are also from states that have yet to legalize even medical use and want options other than a steady stream of pharma opiates for their chronic pain. I get that the situation is frustrating for OP but it also comes off a bit privileged, like those people don’t deserve the opportunity for relief as well.

I still am down to let med users get easier and faster access, but you are 100% right on the first point tbh. This is what happens when we dont have a govt that can come together and make a law and weigh input etc. Shouldnt have had to be a ballot initiative. .

DreadedSnail t1_j7squdm wrote

Terrabis gives med card holders priority, and go directly to front of line. And they get a discount that is stackable. You can also do a preorder one through their website and just do drive thru if you don’t want to stand in any line.

I went to Hippo’s on Saturday and they do serve you first if you place your order with them online. I preferred to chat with a bud tender first so I waited the 30 minutes. Everyone in line with me was also very friendly.

You obviously have no idea how business works. They had 2 hours notice that they could sell recreational. I went in on the second day to hippos was in line for 15 minutes they had plenty of options and the budtenders were incredibly helpful as the inventory didn't match what the floor had. They did a wonderful job getting people in and out with the amount of people they had. In gen/ sales for dispos most of them saw a 200-300% increase in customers. If you are having that many issues waiting in line like everyone else I suggest taking advantage of online ordering so you don't have to wait and can almost guarantee you are getting what you want from their stock. My anxiety sounds like it's just as bad as yours, I just medicate differently as I couldn't afford a med license when they came out so consider yourself lucky that you have had access to medication for this long. Be happy that your fellow man can also medicate as they see fit now.

helloporator t1_j7u4gzr wrote

Can’t you just use an online order feature? I know flora farms does this. You just check in, go in the sales room, then it’s on a shelf and you checkout. Kinda like Panera but for weed

First time for me at a dispensary on Tuesday, @ Revival98. I on lined my order at 7am, they open at 10. I waited maybe 5 minutes (non-med card), and was in the store maybe 15 minutes total. Great advice, they seemed to have everything you could ever smoke, drink, or eat. I dont have a basis to compare costs, but the closeness to my house, and easiness of the process was a huge plus for me. The attendant said they prioritize Med card holders, they always go first! Give them a try!

Why aren't you just growing it? You get to pick literally anything and everything. It's a fraction of the cost. Like i paid 400$ or less for my tent and light and air filter and fan. That's all you need. Fabric pots and nutrients and seeds are probably another 100$ you can spend as little as you want though. It might sound expensive but in the long run it's so much cheaper. I haven't paid for weed in years now, that alone as made it so much easier to save money.

If you're trying to do wax and extracts you'll probably just have to settle for hash. Get some dry sift screens or bubble hash bags. It's a whole other art and skill to make extracts. It's pretty cool though. Unless you want to spend the 400$ plus for a press. You can look into it. There's a way to do it with a hair straightener. But it's almost not worth it.

An getting rid of the anxiety with marijuana is a really good trick considering the drug causes paranoia in most people. Where did you get your prescription the cannabuss.

Still daily deals, points you can stack on to anything. Still 1st, 2nd, and 3rd visit discounts. Still daily deals. Weekly brand deals. I’m sorry you felt there wasn’t any discounts available to you once rec started but that just simply isn’t the case.

Hello, a member of the Hippos Team here.

I want to start off by apologizing for the wait that you had to endure. We are constantly trying new methods and procedures to keep our medical patients and new adult-use customers happy.

We recently introduced a solution to the problem we had at our store that we think will make your visits far more enjoyable. We now have a "Medical Express Pass".

When checking in at the front please let the greeter know that you would like to skip the line and they will present you an express pass and a budtender should be with you shortly. Again the Hippos team is very sorry about the experience you had and are looking forward to helping you again!
