I've been waiting for brightspeed to reach the center of town from the day it was announced. It's been $65 a month from the start. Now that it has reached my area they have jacked the price up to $100 a month. At that price I'm not sure they are worth it. So beware anyone signing up that you are looking at over $400 extra a year.
I have had Brightspeed/Century Link for over a year now. My price is still $65 a month.
Ultimately that's my complaint. Why Jack the price up for just those folks in the center of town when everyone else still paying $65

Same. The internet is great but if they raise it to $100/month I won’t do that.
I actually just signed up a month or so ago and got in at the $65 a month price point. The sales rep said that they were raising their prices to around the $100 mark. Not that it helps, but it does seem like this was a planned thing. I honestly think the speeds justify the $100 and that $65 is a freaking steal.

I was told that those who had the $65 rate would be grandfathered in for the foreseeable future. Of course, how long that is could be anyone’s guess, but it did make me more optimistic about them.

I preordered my service, so it won't be installed until early April, but I'm locked in at the better price.
I'd love to pay $100 for fast reliable service. I currently pay $80 for 40mb service that frequently drops out or gets congested to the point it's impossible to stream. Or when we do stream the quality constantly downshifts to blurry circa 2003 mode.
But back to your topic some ISPs are known to charge different rates in different areas for the same service.
Plus, early adopters always get better rates. The first adopters pay for the rest of the plant to get built, then the rest of the customers are profit.
Not defending the process, but that's how it works.
I think most of us wanted to be early adopters but it's taken years to build out. We're what 2-3 years down the road and half the city still doesn't have it?
I would've loved to get this at $65/mo 2 years ago, but here I am still waiting and now I'll get the honor of paying $100/mo?

Again, I'm not defending the process, but that's how it works, unfortunately. Taking years to build out a city's worth of fiber optics is a completely reasonable timeline.
Check your speed. Most households over buy speed. Most households do not need a gig of speed. I have 40meg with no issues and we stream everything plus I work from home. So ask yourself do you really need a gig
When it comes to Brightspeed/Quantum, it's not just speed for me. This is a brand new network with brand new equipment. Mediacom's network is old and falling apart, which is what causes a lot of the issues their customers have. Brightspeed's network is maintained by City Utilities as well. Since they're already keeping an eye on lines it should make for a better maintained network. Price, reliability, & speed all played a factor in me choosing them.
Workers just got done laying fiber-optic in my neighborhood. If it’s more than $65 I’m currently paying for AT&T, I’m not switching.
I'm on the south west side. Just checked, and it would be $100/month for the 940 Mbps for me too. $60 for 200, $80 for 500. Was seriously thinking of switching, but definitely wont now.
Several years ago when it was still CenturyLink I called and threatened to go to a different company that had just came in to my area at a cheaper rate. They changed me over to a $45 month plan to keep me. The stipulations were that I don't cancel or move it would be a lifetime rate. You may give it a try?

Make sure they don’t charge you a bull shit installment fee… they say they cover the first 1500 worth of expenses… still wanted to charge me 900 dollars for installment fee. plus they told me very firmly they don’t accept credit. Company is a joke.

Us, too. They literally dug up our side yard to install the cable and then tried to charge us over 1,000 to connect to our house. So disappointing.
Consider yourself lucky they wanted to charge me $4200 for the install.
Absolute garbage, they pulled the same crap on me. I guess why invest in your own infrastructure when you can make the customer pay for it instead. AT&T buried fiber up to my house at no cost, so I'm glad I held out. Especially if they're already raising prices.

Yeah, $65 was a deal Mediacom and AT&T couldn't beat, but for $100 Brightspeed is still way better lmao
You can get cheaper slower speeds, but idk if it is really worth switching. $50month for 200mb. $80 for 500. They have fine print about your modem rental/purchase and free install for the $80 and $100, but idk why you couldn’t just change your speed to the cheapest one after getting the “free” install… and avoid the bs.
The just buried the stuff this month in my area for a start date in April. Att also sent letters that fiber was available soon as well.
My promo rate with att ended and they said they could get me a cheaper rate (not as good as the promo), but had to have a new line buried to the house from the box. Still don’t know how that makes since
100/m for symmetric 1Gbp is pretty freaking good consider the next best is Mediacom at 1000/100 at nearly the same price
The dudes just left, we're on the central/south area near Fremont/Seminole and it's $60/mo locked in for life, free install and equipment. We stuck with the 200mbps up/down, no need for more (which were more expensive). Couldn't sign up fast enough. They running straight to the house from the back yard so no construction fees. Maybe that's what happened with the center of town?
This looks like it might be a post about area ISPs because it contains the word brightspeed. If so be sure to read past posts on the subject. They all basically say this: In Springfield your options are Mediacom, Att, and now Brightspeed Fiber (in limited areas).

By the way, CenturyLink/Lumen sold off their assets to a private equity company (Apollo), who created Brightspeed as company to run it. I would not be surprised to see things like this as private equity tries to squeeze out all the profits they can.
