This is not meant to condone drunk driving, but as was posted before to give you a heads up the 5-0 will be hunting tonight. If you’re drinking, get a ride and don’t drive. If you’re sober, don’t open your trunk without a warrant.

Do dui checkpoints exist out here? I haven't seen one since I left the west coast.

They do them a few times a year. Usually not near where they should. And they do not catch many drunks. They mostly catch people for other things but use DUI as the excuse to make it legal. They then get to brag about it and puff themselves up as heroes.

They used to do them all the time in missouri. I remember reading somewhere that the government cut way back on them because they didn't help enough to justify the cost and disruption, but don't quote me on it. I think there was also some concern about 4th Amendment issues, but I'm not a legal expert so again don't quote me on it.

No, checkpoints don’t occur in Springfield anymore. They and Greene County haven’t done them for years. They do enforcement through traffic stops now.

Edit: While still they can still do DUI Checkpoints, I believe MODOT stopped funding these and now fund them through the traffic stop method.

I was once at a light after a beer from the bar and police cut us off. Like sunshine and Campbell. Lady got out of her cop SUV and walked car to car to tell us we'd have to go further down Campbell instead of sunshine. Giant wreck. I said nothing the whole time and nodded then she went to the other car. I was scared there for a minute they were about to test everyone. I'm sure a beer with some nachos over the course of an hour probably in the legal limit. Ate at tacos del Gordo #2 with my brother. Used to go every pay day.

That is to say no but I sure was scared for a nin

I've lived here all my life, and I saw one once on east Sunshine; maybe about 10 years ago. They were only stopping eastbound traffic, and I was headed west.

They usually set them up on Chestnut expressway heading towards Kansas Expressway from downtown.

Last one I saw was about 10 years ago they set up in the southbound lane of West Bypass between Sunshine and FR 156. Took like 45 minutes to get thru to where I lived on the other side.

If you're driving safe, why would you need to worry?

Some of us like not being stopped and searched without probable cause. We have better things to do in our life than have our rights trampled upon to make the police's life easier. Papers please check points are more authoritarian than I'd like.

Okay. So how does this information help you "drive safe"?

LeeOblivious t1_je8fxpy wrote

Safe can have a lot of meanings in this context. Safe in your rights for example. Or safely along without disruption of your trip. Or maybe it is just a generic wish for a safe drive?

Know the script and your rights.

Believe it or not there are some individuals in this world that due to the way we look, color of skin, are inherently not safe around cops.
