Could have skipped the part shit talking about the police officer.

The guy felt the need to pull me over a couple miles away from the abandoned houses just because I turned onto the highway from across the street and drove by somewhat slow for maybe 15-20 seconds to get a good look at them no one was behind me and I wasn’t unsafe. I was leaving the area and he sped up quite a lot just to catch up to me. He also attempted to do an illegal search of my car and starting acting right once he was filmed. Robert Suzuki is a danger to the community based on my experience.

Robert Suzuki sounds like a name of a bad buy here - pay here used car salesman.

I kind of agree with ShartsvilleDestroyer. The bad cop part felt kind of out of place. It maybe would have been a good follow up or extra episode for this one. It did detract from the larger story.
And I'm not defending a bad cop. I'm trying to give constructive criticism.
jesseqr OP t1_ispxdhd wrote
Yeah I can understand that. I put it in mainly to warn people in the area, but I also wanted to keep it short instead of telling the whole story for a few minutes and explain myself in the video. I don’t think it was crazy enough for a stand alone video.
Maxwyfe t1_ispxyyw wrote
I don't either, but maybe a follow up, like I said. Just maybe a little extra bit about how crazy the local cops are about enforcing the no trespassing signs in that area. If you do it right, it kind of lends more intrigue and conspiracy to the whole shady real estate development scam. Like this place is so messed up the crooked local cops will hassle the crap out of you if you just drive by.

That’s a good angle to look at it from. I might add some text to the video, but thanks for the help that’s definitely a good idea!

I have known Officer Suzuki for years and not once have I heard a bad word about him. That man is about "down to Earth" as you can get. He even moonlighted at the local Wal-Mart as a shelf stocker when times got tight. You know what?... He was a damn good shelf stocker.
Sorry you had a bad experience but when you say you pulled out from across the street and drove real slow, there ain't nothing across the street but a big mud pit. Dude... I have no doubt you looked like a meth head looking to score some copper wire.
Officer Suzuki is a good guy and I bet he would be happy to shake your hand and explain why he pulled you over if you give him the chance.

Laughed unreasonably hard at this

You sound pretty dumb. There’s a parking lot directly across the highway from the houses that had about 20 plus cars in the parking lot when I was there and that’s the lot I pulled out of. I guarantee the copper wire is long gone dumb ass. Officer Suzuki is such a great guy he feels like speeding over the speed limit for a good mile or two to catch up to me because I was so far ahead only because I wanted to look at the houses real quick and then I wanted to leave the area for the day. Right because good people act hostile from the start and lie for absolutely no reason. Maybe he used to be a good person one time but I think the so called “power” has got to his head.
ShartsvilleDestroyer t1_ispckru wrote
It's not needed in this video though. It completely derailed the video for me. I'm sorry that I also don't make it habit to just believe anything I read on the internet. How did he try to do an illegal search of your car?
jesseqr OP t1_ispeg4t wrote
He claimed he smelled a marijuana smell coming from my car. That’s a common tactic police use to obtain probable cause for a search. When he said that I was in disbelief because I’ve never smoked cannabis in my car and I was like are you really going to do try and do that? He was clearly lying and he knew it and then after he tried that I told my friend to start recording because I don’t know what this guy is going to do which after he heard that he just pretended he never made up that lie and his whole demeanor changed. He came across as hostile from the start of the stop and then once he was recorded he became a lot more professional. It was scary how he tried abusing his power for no reason and I’m sure I’m not the first person he’s harassed. The point was to warn anyone who might try to go to those houses or anyone who lives in or visits that area. Police need to be called out when they abuse their power.
Shadow11Wolf50 t1_ispgg8h wrote
Always call em out. You're right, there's no telling how often that cops gotten away with that kind of behavior up till that interaction with you. I'm glad you're safe.
ShartsvilleDestroyer t1_ispf4th wrote
So he never asked to search your car? Just said it smelled like weed? Am I understanding that correctly?
>Police need to be called out when they abuse their power.
They absolutely do. The middle of a YouTube video about an abandoned land is not the place for it.
jesseqr OP t1_ispgwbr wrote
He wasn’t asking if I had cannabis in my car. He wasn’t saying he smelled marijuana for no reason. He wasn’t joking around or anything either. I’m not that naive it’s very obvious what he was trying to do. When I confronted him about that and told my friend to record he gave up because he knew that was a lie. If there’s no probable cause and I don’t give permission to search my car it’s an illegal search in a regular traffic stop like that. Perhaps it was out of place in the video but this situation was relevant to the houses because it happened about 10 minutes after I finished the drone footage. And he pulled me over because I went slowly by the houses for a short amount of time.
ShartsvilleDestroyer t1_isph2p3 wrote
Did he ever ask to search your car?
jesseqr OP t1_ispjzxy wrote
Then why else would he say that unless it’s for a search? Cannabis has a very distinct smell that isn’t confused with other scents. Police don’t say that for absolutely no reason. If I would have acted nervous or scared and not stood up to him by calling him out and recording him I guarantee he would have acted different once observing his change in demeanor. If he really believed he smelled cannabis he seems like the type of officer to care about weed too why would he drop the subject after being called out and recorded.
ShartsvilleDestroyer t1_ispkf4h wrote
No idea why he did. But saying he tried to illegally search you when he didn't even ask to search your car seems like an overreaction.

Don't know why this is getting downvoted. It's completely irrelevant to the story and makes the creator look like an spoiled teenager instead of a serious filmmaker. I don't mean that as a personal insult the to creator but really, if he wants films to be taken seriously leave stuff like that out. If it was really that bad maybe make a separate film about the current issues of the site and perhaps give the police an opportunity to present their side of the issue like a journalist would instead of just a one sided I don't like how this dude treated me rant.
I have driven past that site hundreds upon hundreds of times and never once had a problem with the police but then again I don't stop and mess around there. That site is NOTORIOUS for attracting vandals, looky-loos, thieves, and guerrilla filmmakers/content creators so anyone going there should absolutely expect an encounter with the police. They are sick of that site and the problems it attracts.
