He wasn’t asking if I had cannabis in my car. He wasn’t saying he smelled marijuana for no reason. He wasn’t joking around or anything either. I’m not that naive it’s very obvious what he was trying to do. When I confronted him about that and told my friend to record he gave up because he knew that was a lie. If there’s no probable cause and I don’t give permission to search my car it’s an illegal search in a regular traffic stop like that. Perhaps it was out of place in the video but this situation was relevant to the houses because it happened about 10 minutes after I finished the drone footage. And he pulled me over because I went slowly by the houses for a short amount of time.

Did he ever ask to search your car?

Then why else would he say that unless it’s for a search? Cannabis has a very distinct smell that isn’t confused with other scents. Police don’t say that for absolutely no reason. If I would have acted nervous or scared and not stood up to him by calling him out and recording him I guarantee he would have acted different once observing his change in demeanor. If he really believed he smelled cannabis he seems like the type of officer to care about weed too why would he drop the subject after being called out and recorded.

No idea why he did. But saying he tried to illegally search you when he didn't even ask to search your car seems like an overreaction.

It’s very obvious why he would say that. If you interact with enough police or learn about some of their tactics you can learn about the reasons they do or say certain things.
