Y'all know any good City Utility bill assistance companies in Springfield? I used to go to OACAC but they won't let me know if my reapplication got accepted or not no matter how many voicemails and emails I send them and it is getting really frustrating.

I highly suggest everyone find where their water/electric/gas meters are and watch how your usage goes. Obv every housing usage is diff you can gauge what your usage is day to day for gas and electric and over weeks for water. Electric is generally all viewable on your online account…gas and water are moving that way.

A lot of people live in less than efficient houses that are old or have inefficient older appliances. Just as many people need to make better decisions…74 in January is going to cost you when you could just put on another layer…or people who want 68 in July…when you could turn on a fan. Check some basic things…try adjusting your thermostat and adding/removing clothes…move your bed from against an outside wall to an interior wall to avoid too hot/cold exterior walls. Seal up things. Make sure your water heater isn’t at 11 when you just need 5. Try and maximize clothes washing…try and run a clothes line if you can. Turn things off. A million little tips that positively benefit anyone from a very inefficient house to the most efficient.

The reality also is that sewer will keep going up til about $50 a month due to federal regulations/EPA. Our rate is still very good compared to quite a few cities regionally.

And, as anyone who has ever had Liberty/Empire will tell you…CU is light years better.

I would also avoid level pay. “Normal usage” is easy to do during the deep freeze or a month of 100 degrees but that will be factored in to the next year…and having drive to keep the bill low during severe times is a better idea than doing the same ole.
