What is the best way to get rid of a decent sofa in Springfield, without paying someone to haul it away? I used to live in apartments where all you had to do was set it near the trash and it would magically disappear, but I'm in a house and that wouldn't seem to be an option.

Dump it in the middle of the street, then put in a ticket with the city that someone dumped a couch in the road. They'll come pick it up.

Set it outside with a $50 price tag on it and someone will steal it before you get back inside your house.

I would not recommend this. I once left a mattress on the curb and no one tried to take it. Ended up having to ask my uncle to take it to the dump for me.

We had a couple old ones that were so beat up, they couldn't be used. We have a second trash container (few extra dollars a month) so we just broke them down into pieces and put it in the trash bin. Took 5-6 weeks of trash collection to get it done, but they are gone now. Probably cost about $8 total.

People in West Virginia burn them to celebrate college football games…but I think the consensus everywhere else is to avoid being like West Virginia. You’re welcome, good luck.
