Lol I forgot that guy banned me from his historical page for commenting that the Parler app was not the beacon of free and private speech he was trying to convince his followers to leave Facebook for a few years back.

I got banned for reacting with an angry face. That's it.

I used to really like seeing the pictures and history in that group but when Springfield adopted the new flag I made the mistake of saying I was in favor of it and got banned. I always like seeing what things used to look like. Local history is interesting.

Check out the Library’s Local History department. You can find a lot of great information there. They have a website for historic Ozarks photos like this one.

Yeah, he really doesn’t deal well with anyone having a dissenting opinion.

Basically my opinion. I said I thought the old flag looked like it had been designed by fourth-graders (turned out it was high schoolers but still) and the elements chosen had virtually no significance (unlike the new one where everything was chosen due to significance), and I didn’t understand why people were suddenly freaking out about “preserving the history” of the old flag and trying to find ways of buying one, and maybe they should take that money and give it to organizations that were trying to preserve ACTUAL history. Little Dick Crabtree didn’t like that.

He is a bit of a loon in that regard.

Woah this is Crabtree’s group? Tell me more (new to SGF and his name has come up recently when looking into researching the history of our home).

He does a lot of historical research - he’s also a real estate agent, I believe, and he’s worked with a lot of historic properties. Great stories and he gets a lot of pictures from the News-Leader archives. He also rules the group with an iron fist and will instantly kick out and block anyone who dissents in any way. I joined another local history FB group and there are a dozen stories of people who pissed off Richard Crabtree.

How Galloway was cut off
Well it is 1956 and lot has changed since this photograph was taken. We are flying over the intersection of Hwy 60 and 65 heading North.
At the time 65 from Springfield came down through Glenstone - Seminole - Lone Pine through Galloway. It would then cross Hwy 60 and cut over to what we call Blackhawk Rd/Farm Rd 181 (the bridge is now cut off) and would turn into NN heading into Ozark.
They working on the new exchange - which of course has been recently redone again.
To the left of the photo you can see where the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. A the top you cannot miss the Quarry of the AshGrove Lime Company and the Town of Galloway.
