This. It also has one of my favorite sandwiches: The Eye of Sauron. Not year round though

I am am looking to find an authentic Philly cheesesteak that has chopped steak, cheese whiz and onions. I only seem to find ones that use Swiss cheese and green peppers.

The 7th On Walnut (formerly known as The Original Chicago Cheesesteak Company) (417) 865-1775 https://maps.app.goo.gl/YrY3UN2E3jJ4D2Y29?g_st=ic

I absolutely love this place! The closest I’ve found in Sprimo. Hope you try them out.

This is the one across the street from Jimmy John’s, correct? I personally haven’t been downtown in a whole bunch of years and I wasn’t sure if they were still there. That is exactly who I was going to suggest. Best Philly cheesesteak in town.

This was also the first place to come to mind, always my downtown go-to!

A spot in Missouri. With the "Original Chicago Cheesesteak." Which is a Philly thing. I bet it's delicious.

Wtf is a Chicago Cheesesteak? I've been here for almost 15 years and I've never come across one. And I've yet to find a Philly Cheesesteak outside of PA that deserves the title.

Charlie's in the mall has one with a cheese sauce close to whiz.

I'm from Philly, Jersey Mike's is the closest I've found, but not quite it.

Chicago Cheesesteak has spectacular hot dogs, but their cheese steaks are wrong

Penn Station's fries are fantastic, but their cheesesteaks aren't right.

There was a food truck in Battlefield across from subway that is kinda close-ish

The best luck I had was making it myself. Walmart has cheesesteak meat, that works nicely.

It’s not exactly authentic but Penn Station on Battlefield is awesome. Also great fries, cookies and Lemonaid.

I tried to go there for lunch today and they had a sign on the door that said “closed until further notice”. Not sure what happened.

Helovesmycoconut t1_iv8oepz wrote

Same. The thank you for your patronage part of the sign makes me think they’re not reopening.

Jersey mikes or penn Station. Chicago cheesteaks was lacking to say the least.

Saw this posted and gave the old school a try at Charlie’s in the mall. It didn’t disappoint and had cheese whiz and onions.

Considering that to qualify as an authentic Philly Cheesesteak it has to have the bread from Philly I’d say no, but I’m sure there are some places that do a great job. Just don’t know any off the top of my head.

I miss Conshohocken bread.

Globalksp t1_iv8aho0 wrote

Was that a thing in SGF (moved here recently, from South Jersey, know how to pronounce Conshohoken… and Schuylkill and surprised to see it mentioned in SGF)??

3

mightymeltar t1_ivambk0 wrote

Never was a thing here. I'm from Philadelphia. A lot of food here is wonderful. I mean I think BBQ is a religion in the midwest. But I miss pizza and cheesesteaks like they did in PA.

Globalksp t1_ivamiz3 wrote

Ah gotcha. Hoping to change some of that missing food landscape here soon if I’m able to have my way… 🤫

I remember seeing a post on Facebook several months back about Marty's Sports Bar on Campbell having authentic Philly cheese steaks on Monday nights. I don't know if it's still a thing.

Hopefully, it's not "authentic" like the Big Slice. That sad excuse for NY style pizza is infuriating.
