Ooooh. Some people are gonna be mad.

Well, I posted this because of the LED cabinet failure so soon after he spent a ridiculous sum on this display system, and apparently whoever sold this to him cut corners on proper circuitry design (more expensive when done right), or relatively cheap components. And for a client like this, with the traffic this location sees, it is seemingly indicative of an LED reseller that maximized profits over robust product & design.

That sucks, Johnny. Someone's going to get the whip cracked, or already has.

Hmm this side is a Daktronics, they are pretty good about having redundant signal paths. I'd guess it's a power supply issue

Totally agreed. Just, terrible timing right after launch, haha

ZeProdigy23 t1_iy0pe0x wrote

You don’t have a clue. They have been weather proofing it all and there is redundant power supplies, more than likely it is just unplugged for that particular panel. Daktronics did the install and is a leader in these screens.

Happy holidays to you too! ;)

I mean at-least have a clue what you are talking about.

The tech was out there running the connections to the cabinets at 3am, I wouldn't be surprised if a power supply was loose. Lol They are adding the faux wood framing around so that easily could have knocked a loose connection. Or they could have gotten a bad power supply. It happened to Dak before.

keonijared OP t1_iy0r332 wrote

Who hurt you? I've said everywhere else in the thread I'm a design engineer, talked about what it likely is (power supply and/or data connection failure) and am very familiar with all ends of these.

You know, offering more than "that cabinet is just unplugged for whatever reason".

Cute though. ;)

Yeah buddy that’s how it works…. It’s just unplugged

You’re not going to find many places that embrace Christmas more enthusiastically than Bass Pro Shops, but some people will get upset about the inclusive language choice. Never mind that even excluding non-Christian religious holidays, they celebrate a holiday season that runs from Thanksgiving thru New Years.

Perhaps this will equate to shorter lines when I take my kid for pictures with Santa!

Nasaltron t1_iy03jb7 wrote

Pretty sure this is about the huge chunk of bad LED panels, on their brand new $$$$ sign, rather than the language.

keonijared OP t1_iy0d4px wrote

Yes, that's what I was posting this for. Nothing to do with Christmas specifically, haha.

I actually work for a Springfield-local LED manufacturer, and it says a lot for data connection and/or tile/cabinet failure so early after a big installation like this.

I see this sign off my back porch and they did pixel map out a “clean line”. It is a Daktronics board….I’ve seen the generic messages.

Construction has taken forever but is not still done, esp for final edge work on a huge sign. I know nothing about coding but I would assume code clocking certain places on certain pixel lines would be very easy today. And Daktronics, love or hate, is not a small company.

The sign was clean edged code wise with no physical blockage to make a good picture for prob a couple weeks. I always assumed a physical blockage would be needed, but I’m wrong and coding can form an edge.

Nah, you can’t tell from the picture but that’s about twenty feet off the ground. Definitely not a door.

The huge tile/cabinet failure in the giant LED installation they just finished. Nothing to do with Christmas :/ although I guess that could be said too..? I dont care either way, it's the season for family and loved ones.

My confused ass thought it was the bad screen and the lettering. Lol

Yeah I thought we were looking at dead pixels for a second. My thought was, "Oh dang these screens just got installed, it's a shame a block of the screen is gone." Thinking that the black squares under the word holiday were the focus point of this post.

13

keonijared OP t1_iy0dp20 wrote

Yes, you're correct. Dead cabinets/tiles from sub-par data connections or cheap power supplies, merely weeks after completion.

On an installation like this, the design engineer should have accounted for what's called 'redundancy' data connections, so a client (especially like this) never loses a cabinet if something as simple as a CAT5/6 fails.

evil_viking t1_iy0ojvd wrote

They use SATA and fiber in signs this big. At least they didn't install this one over a fountain lol

2

keonijared OP t1_iy0pxiw wrote

Yup, familiar with them- especially the signature Daktonics dealer treatment. If you're in the industry too, you know how angry whatever middle management is going to be after getting a call from the top with-

"Someone drove by this and called Johnny to say 'Hey, your new sign is broken'. Fix it."

Sgthouse t1_ixzriyf wrote

Oh. I couldn’t care less either way so I didn’t pick up on that. I’ll get offended anyway tho if that’s what everyone else is doing.

I think OP is posting on regard to the panels out at the bottom of the new screen

I bet it's under warranty. It won't affect Johnny too much, just whoever the third party was that installed it.

Sounds like someone is jealous that JM didn’t go with their company to do the sign. Find something better to get internet points.

I see this sign off my back porch. They have spent from just after the fishing fair til now to end be where they are. They did figure out digital pixel mapping because I assumed the screen blocks would have been covered by physical things. But they got digital mapping or image presentation figured out.

Fishing and hunting isn’t just the US…it’s all of the world. Conservation of food resources is important as can be no matter what continent you are on.

A true Christian or Muslim or atheist or whatever this time of year realizes differences and goes on about their day. Because they are confident in who they are. Only the weak or unhealed are petty.

IDGAF, but posting “gotcha” pwns on a local sub isn’t exactly groundbreaking material.
