hey guys, so me and a few friends are doing a Burger Quest to find the best burger in Springfield, we normally stop at Bairs (which is our usual hang out spot) but we want to expand our burger tastes.

We have already done Ebbets Field we gave it a 21/25 on our rating scale. 5 categories based out of 5.
Black Sheep 23/25
Cedars 20/25

still looking for the best burger, any other suggestions

The Full Ride Burger at J.O.B. Public House. Used to be served at Grad School but the pandemic shut it down because it was such close quarters.

It’s the best SGF burger and it’s not really close. Soft-serve sharp white cheddar. It’s a religious experience.

Was here to recommend Grad School, but wasn't sure they survived covid. What a shame.

9

Stat_Sock t1_iyy20wd wrote

They kinda still exist. J.O.B. absorbed them since they are owned by the same people. The menu has stuff from both restaurants. The full ride is still just as good as when it was at Grad School

AtomicTacoSauce t1_iyyksp7 wrote

I’m glad you posted this. We moved away for almost 5 years, and Grad School was one of our favorites prior to moving. Knowing that I can still get the Full Ride just made me significantly happier that we moved back home!

Owners of the property wanted a parking lot more.

6

EpicMemorableName t1_iyyhomi wrote

Well of course. The Vue's parking garage has been flooding from its poor construction ever since it was built.

I'll second the Full Ride at JOB, props to Farmer's Gastropub for having quality burgers. I think Black Sheep was novel at a point but it's all flash no substance and they build up instead of out which honestly just makes them a chore to eat.

Lachet t1_iyy2sxs wrote

Full Ride with a little sriracha is amazing!

2

Tully1022 t1_iyxp6wl wrote

W.F. Cody's on East Sunshine is a good one to try.

45

Amosis t1_iyxnl6x wrote

It’s either whatever Farmer’s Gastro Pub has that day or Lindbergh’s with onion jam.

23

Saltpork545 t1_iyxxnun wrote

Yeah, Lindberghs is my suggestion. I doubt it will be top dog, but it's definitely a contender and a solid one.

13

tdawg-1551 t1_iyxmu8e wrote

I'm not a big burger eater, but the wife swears by the BBQ bacon burger at Galloway Grill.

20

Cursed_ChampagnePapi t1_iyxna47 wrote

I'd have to second Galloway. If you're committed on trying all of them I am interested in your opinions after everything is said and done.

6

Mechanicallvlan t1_iyxoge3 wrote

I haven't tried them myself, but I've heard that Lindberg's has good burgers.

16

Chad_Brad t1_iyxpsqe wrote

If this would have been asked a few months ago, I would have said Black Sheep would be one of the better in town. My last two trips there the patties have been so undercooked that they fell apart when picking up the sandwich. I won't be going back again, which stinks because their fries are awesome.

13

Skanky-Cat t1_iyxqb0g wrote

Yeah Black Sheep went WAY downhill.

13

Chad_Brad t1_iyxr553 wrote

Did something happen?

1

Skanky-Cat t1_iyxs63p wrote

Quality of their food is just way down imo. They’re more focused on churning out food than providing a top quality product. I mean I get it, they’re super busy constantly. It’s just not the same as it was in the beginning.

11

Chad_Brad t1_iyxsic3 wrote

Agreed. In the early days they were the best. Now it's just the Metro Grill of burgers.

Inquiring minds want to know: what is your rating system?

10

Sponge_of_the_Hog OP t1_iyy14hd wrote

Taste of Patty: How good is the meat itself
Bun: how is the buns of the burger, does it break, does it hold up
Construction: how the burger is set up, is it too big, does it go overboard with condiments
Sides: how are the fries or any other appitizers we get with it
Greasiness: How greasy is the burger, a 5 is not super greasy a 1 is wet to the touch

17

WorryFreeToot t1_iyzr2e7 wrote

Sides? Why? That’s part of the meal, not the burger itself

5

CetiCeltic t1_iz1zbra wrote

Part of a burger is the experience of eating the whole meal imo.

1

WorryFreeToot t1_iz23x2q wrote

The OP asked the question of the best burger, most would assume just the burger. Not the atmosphere and sides.

Lindbergh’s on C-Street. Oldest tavern in Springfield and everything is cooked in duck fat. Ya, duck fat! Check it. You’ll dig it.

With all the burger connoisseurs in this thread alone, we could start a burger group to help make Springfield stand out for something other than churches and Chinese restaurants (full disclosure: I do love Chinese food).

Who has the best fries in town to accompany a good burger? Was wanting a burger when I woke up, but wanted elite fries too.

2

the_honeyman t1_iyyxs6s wrote

Lindberg's. I can take or leave their burgers, I'm not a huge "go out for burgers" guy so that's not as important, but their fries are divine, especially with their house ketchup.

2

Rimm9246 t1_iyyx9x5 wrote

I didn't have a burger so I cant comment on that but the fries at ebbets field were really good!

1

Throttle98 t1_iyyglej wrote

I’ve had my own quest as well, so far my vote for best in SGF is the Diablo at Lindberg’s.

Go to getting basted near the mall they use a waygu grind beef and there food is amazing

Lindbergs. Hands down…

And their ketchup is house made. So good. (Though I have seen some dispute this one)

Wish Black Sheep still had the Jamaican Me Crazy. I would sell my soul to just have one bite of that burger again.

2

My vote would be Billards, Taylors or Caspers. Especially Caspers, those chili cheese fries are god-tier.

1

arcticmischief t1_iyyyes1 wrote

The Order has the only burger in Sgf that meets my definition of “good.” A good burger starts with good beef, and almost no one in Sgf pays attention to the quality of the beef.

1

loganversustheworld t1_iyymqu6 wrote

…I’ll ask. Why does everyone on this sub hate Black Sheep? Is it just because it’s the most popular local burger? Did the owner kick a baby?

I’ll agree is overhyped but I don’t think it’s that bad.

1

the_honeyman t1_iyyxmz3 wrote

Combination of the owner being a massive prick and them just never being that good to begin with, imo. When they opened Springfield was starved for a decent burger, so they seemed better than they really were. Now other places do it much better. Nothing has really changed, which is part of the problem.

5

TheMuetz t1_iyyroa0 wrote

St. Michaels and Billiards have good burgers. Cody’s is my favorite. I used to love Ebbets but I think they aren’t nearly as good as they used to be. Glad they’re back to business.

College Street Cafe. Second best fries too.

1

HuecoTanks t1_iz06va5 wrote

I wouldn't say "best," but for completion, you might check our Springfield Brew Co. They used to have one of my favorite burgers in town, though probably not the absolute best. The only thing is they've changed their menu several times, so I don't know if they still have good burgers on there.

1

illsburyfroboy t1_iz08coq wrote

I know this doesn't help now but because I want to reminisce, IMO the best Burger in town WAS Mo' Beef.

They sadly shut down, I believe during the pandemic. But by far the best bang for your buck burger & fries in town when they were around.
