I moved here in Springfield Feb this year and recently got a car and a job. I used to travel and go out a lot back in my country (where public transport is everywhere and beaches and mountains are super accessible). I moved in with my husband here in Springfield and I love how peaceful and clean it is here but I haven't really gone out much because my husband likes staying at home. He tries to take me out every weekend but it's still far from my normal (I go out with friends almost everyday but since I moved, it's been a challenge). All my workmates has children and have no time for going out much. So here I am. 😅 Idk where to start. Idk if it's harder to find buddies when you're older but I've never had this dilemma until I moved here. Anyone?

There are swing and line dancing groups around here that are good for people just looking to have a platonic social circle that enjoy getting out and dancing. And at least one bar has a great book club (Hold Fast Brewery). You mentioned back in your country, I don't know where you're from originally but there are several international groups around here. GrupoLatinoAmericano does a lot of social events if you're from a Latin American country (or if you're not and you just want to learn more about them). Also meetup is a good website for looking for friends. I joined a meetup hiking group when I moved back into town after school. Met some cool people that way.

also, welcome to Springfield! :)

Thank you for all the recommendations! I'll definitely check them out. I installed meet up just today and hoping to get somewhere with it. I'm from southeast asia but currently trying to learn Spanish. Would be nice to check out the Latino social events too.

That’s awesome. Funnily enough I started learning Spanish, myself, because of the friends I’ve made at a local Mexican restaurant I love going to. How’s it going?

It definitely gets harder to find people that have any time as you get older, people have kids early and a lot of them here. Not sure your age group but there are a couple semi active groups on meetup. The only active social one I know of is mostly people 40s and up but good people. It meets again at vantage next Thursday. There are a couple active hiking groups on there as well, if you are into the outdoors. Although this time of year there are less hikes. I'll drop a couple links to outdoor groups on Facebook too

Joined to all. Man I wish I found these sooner when it wasn't yet too cold to hike! 😅

I found them all last year around this time so I feel your pain. We will have some good hiking days even in winter though!

Also I heard that volunteering somewhere would keep you on better company.

Try Bumble! They have a BFF feature. I’ve met several people that way.

I was going to say this — Bumble BFF and meetup are both great ideas as well as volunteering.

This town honestly is super hard to make legit friends.

I feel your pain! I think as you get older it is harder to find/make friends. I moved here in May from a large city and have had a hard time as well.

Bowling places I suppose. Mexican Villa South, great food and staff. Incredible Pizza, fun for all ages, especially the lazer tag and that spinning thing, go carts definitely. Not too many places.

Local churches are a good way to get closer to God and find community at the same time. Always my recommendation. I could go to a church event every night of the week if I liked getting out of the house

Despite that fact that I’m not religious I can’t help but agree; if church is palatable then it’s truly one of the best ways to meet new people, and even to be part of a community.

I'm not religious at all but it's insane that you are being down voted for giving a genuine suggestion.

Such it is on this subreddit... anything that leans remotely conservative or religious is treated as an infection by most people here.. and I've come to accept that.

Thankfully that's just the vocal majority on this subreddit, they're in the minority for Springfield and the surrounding area as a whole
