how do we define what a pit is and isnt. akc registry? genomic testing? who pays for this?

if their grandparents were half pits do we euthenize all puppies? who pays for that?

what if its only quarter pit, three quarter boxer?

what if family comes to town from out of state and brings their dog with? are they allowed to travel through this area or will we take their dog and kill it?

will we also ban bull terriers? german shepherds? austrian malinois? rottweillers? dobermans? cocker spaniels? in my lifetime all of these dogs have been made into villains.

Thanks for enumerating all the challenges to the process. Finding the answers might be difficult, but not impossible. I’d prefer to find these answers over having my children attacked in school because some shithead I’ve never met couldn’t manage their animal properly.

you are absolutely correct! its the shithead you never met thats the problem.

discussing these nuanced difficulties is how we come to an ethical consensus in a multiculural, diverse, and democratic society such as ours.

im glad we agree its the owners fault and their responsibility rather than something as arbitrary as “breed”.

Except, of course, this is about culling dogs, and not people. The shithead is going to keep on being a shithead. The most you can do is make it illegal for them to own an animal that will react to their shithead qualities by getting angrier and crazier and more uncontrollable until they go out, independent of the shithead, and rip the faces off a bunch of toddlers.

Pit bulls are a uniquely fragile breed, apparently predisposed by fundamental behavior to attack children and other dogs. They’re apparently responsible for half fatal dog attacks despite representing no more than 6% of the dog population. We need to be phasing out any animal with salient evidence of pit characteristics for the same reason we don’t let felons own firearms, we put cancer warnings on cigarette packs, and we don’t allow private ownership of high explosives.
