That would be a tough to get someone to vouch for you not knowing anything about you. It takes awhile to get hired onto the city too unless you start at the bottom. But good luck my friend.
Not sure of your career path but there is also Greene Co who prob has as many jobs. Other counties or cities within 30 minutes may be worth trying.
Thanks!!!
I'm not really seeing how what I'm asking for is unethical. Can you explain?
To clarify, I'm not asking anyone to lie and say I'm their best friend from childhood, but that I seem to be a solid guy that they met on the internet. I would actually want to do some back and forth with someone over PM to give them more of my background and whatnot before they refer me.
Thank you. I figured it would be a long shot, but it couldn't hurt to shoot my shot.
Again not sure of your career field, but most any city or county employee with SGF/Greene I’ve encountered as long as it is a reasonable for the job description generally wants to help. They may be like a couple folks I know at county who are admittedly there for the benefits and retirement but still do their jobs well. The city has a call center for citizen issues called the “citizens resource center” that serves as a distribution point for a wide variety of govt department issues to address. From simple issues to much bigger questions, I’ve found a response physically from anything from a day to a couple weeks depending on how big the issue is. I’ve even had some very specific traffic Dept issues where the area engineers call me back and listen and have solved issues within the engineering standards.
I think most city/county workers here want to do a good job and help the area.

Put yourself in the employer's place. Would you want someone who chatted with someone else on the internet to vouch for their work habits? That's generally what a referral is for.
I see it as someone who has known you for some time and better yet has worked with you previously. I don't see it as something a "virtual" friend can do.
What is wrong with a referral from someone who actually knows you in Florida?
I'm here for ya bruh but I don't think you want a referral from my username
It’s a job with the city my guy. Calm down. You act as though he is applying for a convent.
So city jobs have different ethic requirements, is that what you're saying? What difference does it make? Never mind, that was a rhetorical question for you. It obviously makes a difference.
So educate me, where do you draw the line on how important the job before ethical behavior kicks in?
Wow. You need to chill. Life is too short to be as up tight as your sorry ass.
So if my opinion differs from yours I'm tight? If you don't like my opinion then butt out of the conversation. You apparently have some pretty low life values yourself.
BTW, you didn't answer my question, scooter.
You are a sad little judgmental boomer who has nothing better to do but be a keyboard warrior. I hope you get to touch some grass soon.
Well referrals on job applications are usually in reference to current employees at said company/organization. Maybe I misunderstood your reply.
To clarify, I'm talking about the portion of the job application that says "were you referred by a current (insert company/organization name here) employee? If so, whom?"
Ahhh, now I see where your thoughts come from. Thanks but no thanks to the weed. I'll take life as it is. You still didn't answer my question, Cheech.
For your information, I'm not sad at all. I retired a few years ago and built a home on Table Rock Lake. I'm doing just fine my little friend who is searching for the meaning in life and why boomers question those without morals and ethics. :)
Not at all. Perhaps you are thinking of a letter of reference. A referral is when a current employee tells you about an open position at their company. There is a portion on job applications that say "were you referred to us by a current employee of (so and so company)? If so, whom?"
You don't need a close, personal relationship with Joe Schmoe who works for Dish Network and tells you they are hiring and that you should apply, but Joe Schmoe would indeed be referring you at that point.
Your story is changing. It went from "I seem to be a solid guy that they met on the internet" to hey, this guy told me a bout a job opening you have. 2 different situations. I hope you find the job you wan t and it works out for you.
It isn't changing. I'm explaining what a referral is and how it isn't as personal as a letter of recommendation. If you're an employee on a job site, you wouldn't refer someone you met on that said job site if you felt they were incompetent, but you don't have to be their friend, either. It's a softer judge of character than a reference or recommendation.
You could know enough about a person you met online to refer them, but it would be unwise to write a letter or recommendation for them or let them use you as a reference. These are three separate things. My story isn't changing.
You're free to see it as you want. We all set our ethic levels in life. I've said my piece. I'm done.
Just a word of advice, don't take much stock in your dope smoking supporter in looking for a job in SPFD. LOL.
I work for the city of Springfield What experience do you have working for the state of Florida?
PM'd you. Thank you!
