I'm considering switching from AT&T U-Verse to Brightspeed fiber for Internet service, but I'd read some concerning reviews on this board after Quantum sold the service to Brightspeed.

That was a few months ago, so I'm hoping they worked the bugs out by now. I work from home sometimes, so I need reliable service.

Would Brightspeed customers in Springfield or the surrounding area be willing to share their experiences as of today?

This looks like it might be a post about area ISPs because it contains the word Brightspeed. If so be sure to read past posts on the subject. They all basically say this: In Springfield your options are Mediacom, Att, and now Brightspeed Fiber (in limited areas).

It has been working reliably for me outside of a day around the holidays when it was having issues network wide.

Some people including me had significant issues getting it installed. But now that I don't have to talk to them anymore I'm happy. The speeds are unmatched in Springfield.

Personally I consider dealing with Mediacom and AT&T far worse.

We've had the service for a long time -- I think we were among the first to get it. The service has been very reliable except for a day recently when it seemed to go in and out all day. That issue was resolved by the next day.

There were some billing issues when Brightspeed first acquired them but those also seem to have been ironed out.

My husband works from home and has to have reliable internet and so far they have been better than AT&T fiber was.

I’ve had the service since may. Didn’t have any issue when it was quantum. As soon as it switched to Brightspeed I started experiencing issues. They didn’t bill me the first month of the switch, then the next month they double billed me. Saw a Reddit post about the same thing happening to others in the area.

I work at a phone store with really bad customer service. Our customer service is all foreign and speak broken English, so I know how annoying it can be to communicate, but you learn overtime how to get your point across in a simple way they can understand. I contact Brightspeed customer service expecting somewhat of the same experience, but nope, they speak NO English.

Another month goes by, and again this month, my payment wasn’t taken out. I tried using the in app chat to get it resolved, the representative couldn’t even understand what my problem was so I decide to call their customer service. Explained that my autopay hadn’t come out yet. The guy says “so, I understand you can’t access your account?” I repeated my problem 4-5 times slower and easier to understand. He proceeds to send me an email to reset my password and then ends the call.

Never got the problem resolved, and I expect to be double charged next month for the payment they didn’t take out. Thinking of switching to a different company if it continues.

TL/DR: if you’re looking for great internet with no interruptions, and you’re okay with virtually no customer service, and you want to play a 50/50 game on whether your payment will actually get processed monthly, then go with Brightspeed.

I've never had an outage or issues, so I haven't even had to reach out to support. I did feel like at first I was pushing the 700-800mbps speeds, now its closer to 500. This is wired devices, I know that wireless you'll see some degradation.

It is a shared service and the higher plan is "up to 1g" not guaranteed. Fiber is always preferred, and its vastly better than Mediacom coax that I had before. Better price, more bandwidth, and much lower latency.

I had AT&T internet and they put Quantum in our neighborhood and we switched. Our speed is literally 10 times faster for only $10 more a month. We’ve had it for over a year now and it’s been incredibly reliable. I would definitely recommend it.

Had Quantum before they swapped to Brightspeed. I've had zero issues except for the one day a week or so back when everyone was having problems, but it was solved by the next day.

I had Mediacom before that and it was hell. Speeds were garbage and they kept jacking our prices up. I think I pay 1/3 of what I was paying Mediacom and my speeds on Brightspeed are usually 900+ down and up. Would recommend them.

Noticed someone else mentioned customer service is trash for Brightspeed, but tbh, customer service has been trash for every internet service I have ever had. They all hire out to other countries.

I've had it since 4/22 on the SE side of town and have only had the single service issue that others mentioned around the holidays. I also work from home and its been great so far.

I haven't needed to contact anyone but the switch between Quantum and Brightspeed was a little janky. Got an email with a link that didn't work and weird instructions but I eventually got it switched over.

I’ve had Quantum -> BrightSpeed for 4 months now. The only issue we had was the installation being delayed by 10 days at the start. Everything else is smooth and uninterrupted (so far as we’ve observed).

I tried signing up for Brightspeed but we had the situation where Lumen (cabling contractors) wanted to charge is over $1400 to hook it up to our house. Why it was so expensive, no idea. I called Brightspeed, cancelled the install, and let them know that there's no way anyone is gonna sign up for that service with those install fees. Hopefully they figure that out.

Meanwhile, AT&T fiber just became available in our neighborhood. Got it installed the next day. No install fees. 500Mb/s for $65/mo. Been great so far!

Honestly, most people won't need more than that. Hell, most people probably can't even use faster than that on wifi.

I switched months before they sold to Brightspeed and haven’t had any problems, except for that day a few weeks ago where the service was in and out, but that only lasted a day. Otherwise, they take my money every month and provide me fantastic service and that’s as far as our interaction goes (which is exactly what I want from an ISP).

I’ve had it for almost 2 years. I can remember one outage during that time.

It’s been good for what it is. Last downtime on record was 12/26. Not solid downtime, but 10-12 instances throughout the day. Appears to be a predictable anomaly connected with staff being out for the holidays.

Speed is generally as advertised, though difficult to accurately measure.

I've had it for a year with no outages or issues at all.
