I’ve been doing puppy school at petsmart on glenstone and the lady who does the class is wonderful. She is very good at teaching you and your dog the basics. I would highly recommend her

With so much free content online you could have a well mannered dog without paying someone for a class.

Seconding Val at PetSmart on Glenstone! She used to run the Springfield PD’s K-9 unit (or something to that affect) and is so sweet to the dogs she helps train.

EDIT: Now not sure she really assisted with SPD's dogs. Still had a positive experience, however.

Nice! Are you doing the one-on-one or group classes? The classes look like a good deal from what I’ve seen.

While that’s true, I want to be sure I’m not accidentally reinforcing negative behavior or missing crucial steps. Most of the classes are affordable so, to me, it’s a no-brainer to have that solid foundation for the future.

Group class, but there are only 4 other dogs in the class so there is plenty of 1 on 1 time. Muh dingo is easily distracted so getting used to the crowd is a big part of her learning

One on one ended up being the only thing that helped much over just the basics for me. And I left him for two weeks last summer for additional training and it was very good. Most of the people that lead the groups either do it or will know someone. I have a Sable German Shepherd.

Will Atherton has seriously made me reconsider doing classes since I’ve had some luck with a few of his techniques already. But again the classes are so affordable they’re hard to pass up.

She is awesome! My dog wasn't socialized before I brought him at two years. Big dog. Never violent before and had the patience of Job with my young son. But in Petsmart he was so vicious towards the other dogs, I didn't think we could do the training. She came out and in the middle of him basically frothing at the mouth growling and barking at other dogs, sprayed him in the mouth with bitter apple. It was a complete 180. 3 times during that class I had to use it but after that he controlled himself much better. More than that, she explained the way I was speaking to him in a calming voice was wrong, as he didn't know by my voice that he shouldn't be acting like that. She trained me as much as him. And although I didn't pursue advanced courses later on, I got alot out of that training and am thoroughly pleased with the way he acts today.

We completed our first round of training with her and would 100% recommend. I wasn't too excited because of training dogs somewhat when growing up on the farm but the way she taught and what she taught was really great information.

Springfield MO Dog Training Club and Sidekick Dog Training are both amazing programs with knowledgeable trainers.

Maybe affordable to you, not to me, and we just acquired a puppy we weren’t planning on getting - I’ll check out that channel though, I’ve been trying to find some good ones!

I tried reaching out to the Springfield Dog Training Club when we needed training. They never returned my phone calls. We went with Howliday Inn in Rogersville, MO.

Yeah I contacted them yesterday and have yet to hear anything back. We will probably go with PetSmart since that’s not a good sign in my eyes.

I know some of the handlers for SPD and asked them. They said they had family use her once and she made the same statement. She was never the SPD trainer and says it to make her sound better. Phil Yarnell was the head trainer for the longest time and now he is the trainer for Greene County.
