There were 3 76 seaters and 3 50 seaters landing between 9:42 and 10:43, delays can be broken equipment, staff shortage, just about anything. Springfield normally is far better than other airports I fly through.

Luggage checking in general is a PITA.

That is why I never check a bag.

I assume this was Allegiant/United/AA. Delta has dedicated staff for this. But yes, it can be very frustrating.

The one flight I've had with a checked bag into SGF, I had to wait a surprisingly long time for it as well. Just assumed it was because SGF has fewer staff since they aren't a major airport.

Depending on what you are flying on you really have no choice. When I was flying last year anything bigger than a backpack was not aloud, and you could only have just 1 bag with you. Because of that I am never flying United out of Springfield to Denver again.

That isn't unique to United, and is different if they had you gate check on the jet bridge. It should be waiting when you land at your next location. I have had this issue with rollaboard bags (anything with wheels). I switched to a massive backpack that holds pretty much just as much, and haven't had an issue since.

This reply is spot on. By the evening flights, they may be down to one ramp crew for the entire airport. I’ve had to wait thirty minutes to take a gate because there was only one ground crew, and no one to guide the plane into the parking spot. Hopefully as flights pick up, SGF can keep more ground crews for the evening rush and start looking to bring back the valet service and build the covered sidewalk. Sometimes checking isn’t an option. When you are going out for two weeks with a bag of tools and size 14 work boots…. You ain’t ever going to get away without checked luggage.
