I enjoy the Don Toño's food truck on Glenstone, on the parking lot in front of the Japanese Market next to the Walmart Neighbourhood Market.

I've heard from people more familiar with Mexican culture than myself that Don Tono's is authentic. I really appreciate that. Their food is fire.

Yeah, there are a ton of options for authentic street tacos in Springfield now, but this is one of the best.

Tacos El Champu. You won’t regret it. Also, amazing birria tacos

Tacos el Gordo has good ones, there’s two locations, but if you’re willing to drive, down highway 65 before Branson in Saddlebrooke there’s Taqueria El Camino in a gas station and they’re amazing

I Love Tacos! They have a brick and mortar on East Chestnut, and I believe the food truck is on West Chestnut

I go there often and I like it but I don’t understand what takes so long. All the fillings are already cooked. Shouldn’t it just be slap it in some tortillas and add the toppings?

I agree with you. Sometimes I'm in and out and sometimes I'm sitting for a bit.

No-Move09 t1_j5n641p wrote

They get a ton of business. You can call in an order

2

var23 t1_j5vejzz wrote

This would make sense (to explain the delay) if while sitting there there were tons of orders going out ahead of mine. It's usually just one or maybe two folks ahead of me when I go.

It's not going to stop me from going and I might start ordering ahead. My lunch destination though is often made at a whim while on the road. :)

I've tried to eat there twice, but with my lunch break and the amount of people I see already waiting I just roll over to Subway instead.

Depends on what kind of street tacos you're looking for. Your "typical" authentic street taco (corn tortilla, meat of some type, onion, cilantro, lime) is going to be Elotes Don Tono or Tacos El Gordo, your Tijuana style birria taco would be Tacos El Champu but I wouldn't call that a street taco personally. It's still good, don't get me wrong.

Easy. Cesar Old Mexico and El Champu Taco Truck.

Cesar got the best pastor and lengua I ever had! The lengua taco literally taste like pho on a tortilla.. simply phenomenal! And Champu has amazing Birria by far the best I had in town, so cheesy.

midijunky t1_j5rxgb0 wrote

Their birria tacos are good, I'd say on par with the stuff I've had in TJ. But you should try actual birria at some point. The tacos are good, but birria is a whole experience especially if it's made the way it's supposed to be. With goat, not beef.

It's not a hard recipe, but difficult to perfect. I've tried to impress my friends back home but they're always like "nah, it's missing something" but never can explain what it is.

pho on a tortilla? I'll have to check that out, I'm cautiously skeptical but I'll keep an open mind :)

I didn't understand why my dad thought this was so funny until I did it to my son.
