>In Apple's most recently reported full financial year, FY21, the company earned $365.8 billion in revenue and net income of $94.7 billion

How is Apple suppose to stay profitable if they have to pay a living wage?

That is only about 600k per regular employee.

A recent post I saw Apple's worth $3 trillion. Add the $365 billion revenue in their last quarter profit from their $3t and voila! You can say THEY ARE a profitable company.

I am not too concern on worth because its base on share price. That fluctuates. Profits though are real and I think they are one of the most profitable companies in the world.

Did you drop the /s ^(or am i getting wooshed)

smolbrain7 t1_irv8alz wrote

The /s is only used in the cases the sarcasm isn't obvious. Tho seeing it wasn't obvious enough for you, yes they did drop the /s lol.

nebman227 t1_irvu34f wrote

Obvious to some is not obvious to others - /s is most importantly a disability aide and you shouldn't assume it isn't needed. Also, there are many times where I thought it was obvious someone was being sarcastic and it turned out they weren't.

Always use /s

How vague would you prefer an industrial agreement? "Apple will provide about $1.50 for most shifts they work or more shifts. Whatever."

A laundry fee and paid uniform is standard stuff that is usually paid for by a company and is even built into a hospitality minimum wage in Australia

Huh, I was going to say damn, I’ve been washing my clothes for my job for free this whole time?!??!??

Muted_Coffee t1_irv3sla wrote

Its probably apportioned to the average cost to run a load of laundry - which by all accounts seems accurate in this case

I used to recieve a laundry allowance of $500 a year in an old job

novacham t1_irvjs72 wrote

Most places just use a uniform service that includes laundry.

TheNobleGoblin t1_irvlsv8 wrote

Oddly, for the jobs I've had it was the small mom & pop pub that used a uniform service with laundry and not McHell. At McHell you had to wash your own uniform, which resulted in someone calling in because their mom put their uniform in the wash.

novacham t1_irvmb71 wrote

Yeah I provide polos to my employees from CINTAS. They have to wash them though. We aren’t customer facing so not wearing it isn’t a big deal. It just avoids drama from people wearing dumb shirts with political messages.

This is fantastic! In the UK there is a large amount of retail staff who are about to unionise due to: Irregular scheduling, pay which is far below the starting $22 for US workers, complex internal interview procedure which means current staff are unable to change roles or move up, benefits not rising with inflation and many more general issues including ignored low morale, constant understaffing, steam raiding of stores and overcrowding of customers. I’m sure we will see strikes in the UK stores very soon.

IcyChard4 t1_irvflaw wrote

I hope all Apple employees, both retail and inside developers around the world. would do this!

Times have changed, I have like 30-50 apple retail shirts in a box somewhere.

They used to just hand em out.

Why the actual fuck?!?!?

That list of shit they don’t want to do. Like why did you get a job in an Apple Store.

What else is there left to do?

Teledildonic t1_irxsuki wrote

>That list of shit they don’t want to do.

Do you not understand the concept of striking?

4

MajorKoopa t1_is15qws wrote

Yes. Thank you for the check in. My concern is the list of stuff they don’t want to do is what you go to an Apple Store for.

It’s like they all want to go to the beach but are organizing around the amount of sand they don’t want to deal with.

It doesn’t make sense and makes them sound like they just don’t want to work and want to be sponsored by apple.

Why not just exercise your right to get another job if you don’t want to do the things your job needs you to do.

0

Teledildonic t1_is17gl7 wrote

>Yes.

I don't think you do. The things they dont want to do which are things one goes to the store to have done...that's how they are striking, not why.

>Why not just exercise your right to get another job

Because striking can improve a shit job for everyone. Quitting just leaves someone else to take a shit job.

What was your experience working in an Apple Store?

From what I understand from day one, even as a part time employee, apple gives you full benefits. Paid sick, paid covid, paid bereavement, paid civic duty, and paid vacation time. Health benefits including dental and vision. Matching retirement and stock benefits. Stock grants. Paid mental health assistance, educational assistance, and family planning assistance. Public transit and bike subsidies. Partner discounts. Discounts on cellular service. And likely more I’m not aware of.

All that for standing around an Apple Store.

Quitting doesn’t leave an opening for someone to take a “shit” job, it creates an opportunity for someone that isn’t a selfish, lazy, and self righteous bitch to create some stability and do something with their time.
