Deleting a tweet is a decisive act, though. The capability to edit after the fact introduces ambiguity: ie. "How do I know that was the original tweet? You could have edited the screen shot."

Your logic applies more to deleting than editing: “How do you even know I posted that?” “You could’ve photoshopped that tweet to make it Look like I did”
