By Chinese law they have to hand anything over if asked for it

Between Tiktok and Tencent, it’s only a matter of time before all technology sectors are dominated by the Chinese government. I mean “Chinese companies.”

If this bothers you go check all the ATMs in your neighborhood I would say something like 90% of them are made/owned by the Chinese.

Want to fuck with America big time? Shut off ATM access through the back door you built in

Its literally a data funnel for the chinese government to spy on the rest of the world, then again almost any social media app is a data syphon for either a government or corporation, so do with that info what you will, but i would heavily recommend getting off as much social media outlets as possible

For me Chinese influence is no good because we share the same waters. US is a bit fine since they're far away, and they're busy with games in the middle east anyways.

Kidding yourselves if you think the government doesn’t have full access

Absolutely not. In a constitutional democracy with an independent judiciary you can challenge ANY state action and you CAN actually win. The constitution is the Supreme law of the land, if a court rules against the state then the state must comply or the government officials who refuse will face criminal penalties.

In China there is no independent judiciary. According to Chinse law the CCP is the ultimate authority. A Chinese court cannot order the government to do anything and if a judge did somehow lose their mind and attempt to go against the government then they wouldn't be a judge for long.

So no, it's not the same. In the US and EU companies often challenge government requests for information and they actually win. In China that's impossible.

One party you’re talking about vowed to keep up our safety and democracy in Europe while the other party you’re talking about completely hates the western world we’re living in. There’s a clear difference

Really more then anything this highlights the absolute need for the Rule of Law. The NSA violated the law spying on Americans. Hopefully it has therefor ended, but who can be sure? If we, the American public, had imparted the demand for the Rule of Law in no uncertain terms on our elected officials, we could be sure.

Instead, we have separated ourselves into tribes that will put up with a little bullshit if it helps our side or disadvantaged the other side. As a result we get the corruption in government that we deserve, because we show ourselves to be at least somewhat corrupt as a society.

I’ve worked in a number of large corporates and every time we had to deploy anything in country it had to go through their telecom provider and it couldn’t be above a certain encryption strength.

Yeah sure, all for the lovely price of some economic warfare and industrial espionage. Who could disagree with that??

Edit: I also know of no active hostilities from China towards the West. They complain about our meddling but I can't blame then for that.

If the USA would keep to their own as China does, USA wouldn't be known as warmongers.

The American public regularly makes clear demands for stuff, they are ignored, the US hasn't been a democracy for a long time.

When the CIA can kill presidents allow presidents to be killed, swing elections & install their own (former) agent as president, they are in charge not the public.

I doubt if the Chinese government has complete control of TikTok. Governments rarely if ever create anything so popular and successful. They will probably start 'controlling' it, effectively making it unpopular, then sell it to Facebook.

I am powerless when it comes to the federal government, I focus my energy locally, where things aren't quite as fucked.

In terms of privacy, if it's stored on a server I don't own, I assume the NSA can get the info if they want, it's just that I'm not interesting enough for them to bother, it's not like the FISA courts wouldn't approve it.

No_Firefighter5082 t1_irkd6gt wrote

Understand although what’s so controversial about the information in TikTok? Maybe look at things like alibaba, wish, or even our energy suppliers. Pretty sure that information is more important given you provide PII. As soon as I bought something from wish.com they also on sold my info to scammer dbs - how do I know? I misspelt my name on purpose and that’s what they were referring to me as.

Massively different. If it is shown that a case in the US has no lawful biases the entire thing can be dismissed for lack of evidence and all the evidence gathered is tainted and can't be used.
