Really unhappy about this. I think this is a mistake. Been using signal for sms for years. I only know a few people who actually use signal, so I'm not sure if I'll keep using it if I have to find a new app for sms.

Dont phones literally have a built in SMS app ? Or atleast Google Messages built in.

Yeah they do. I had originally stopped using mine when I was using a galaxy S8 that couldn't be updated and there was security exploits that could be run through the default app. Using signal was an easy way to avoid that.

I suppose now that I'm on a new phone I could go back to the stock app.

I guess if youre american, SMS is pretty important.

Most of Asia just relies on Whatsapp and Europe on FB Messenger. Nobody even cares for SMS here anymore

Well as a Dutch person myself, I have never used FB messenger. But you are right in that nobody uses SMS anymore, pretty much only at festivals where it is the only way to connect with your friends since 4G connection is so bad then.
