After years of only partial availability on streaming, Taxi is finally streaming in full on Paramount+, with original music intact. This is a great classic sitcom starring Judd Hirsch, Marilu Henner, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd, Tony Danza, Jeff Conaway and Andy Kaufman.
Plus he's so wholesome. Especially when Matilda was being filmed and Mara Wilson's mother was dying. It was great to see him on the Always Sunny podcast and you could tell how much the gang loves him. Crazy how close that show came to cancellation, but thank his kids for being fans.
He was the best scuzzy asshole in Ruthless People.
Being interviewed by the police, phone rings. "Hello. Debbie? .... Yeah, Debbie's here, who's this? Well, Ralph, Debbie can't talk right now, my dick's in her mouth. How 'bout if I have her call you back when I'm done.", hangs up the phone. "I love wrong numbers.",
The man is a class act. Definitely one of my favorite all time actors. And I’m so happy that Taxi is fully available, it’s a comfort show for me.
And contrary to Frank Reynolds, Danny is a big supporter of unions and workers rights.
It should get more attention. Won the best comedy Emmy three of five seasons. The comic triumvirate of De Vito, Lloyd and Kaufman is outstanding, and Hirsch is great as the stable center of a crazy ensemble.
Just adding: for anyone who doesn't know the Taxi story related to Andy Kaufman/Tony Clifton, it really is worth a listen. Half a dozen people connected to the show are in interviews about it on youtube.
This was covered in the film Man on the Moon as well.

If you haven't watched it totally holds up. I bought the series on DVD about a year ago and its truly a great sitcom that I'd put on par with a show like Cheers. Christopher Lloyd's Jim Ignatowski is one of my all-time favorite sitcom characters.

Actress Marilu Henner has a highly superior autobiographical memory, a rare condition identified in only 100 people worldwide. This trait drives her to advocate for more funding for brain research. Give Marilu Henner a random date in the past and she can recall it with amazing clarity.
Her and people like her that can do that fascinate the hell out of me. It's insane how our brains work or can work.
The theme song from Taxi is one of the best of all time IMO. Made me really fall in love with that Rhodes Piano as an instrument.

Fun fact: series composer Bob James originally wrote that theme (called “Angela”) as incidental music for the third episode of season 1, where Alex goes on a blind date with answering service operator Angela Matusa. The showrunners liked it so much that they decided to use it as the theme song for the entire series.
As it happens, James is a very accomplished jazz composer and keyboardist outside of the show; several of his non-Taxi works were even sampled by early hip hop artists.
Also comes on every night on the DECADES channel on local over the air stations in the US if you get it.
They are including the two episodes (s5e1 and s5e23) that Decades skips.
Mildly interesting that Taxi originally ran on NBC and ABC and now shows up on Paramount+.
Now, I wish some streamer would give Newhart the treatment it deserves.

It was part of the MTM library, which was badly mistreated before Fox bought it. First it was purchased by a British company, then religious huckster Pat Robertson. The original elements were not treated kindly before Fox bought MTM in the late 90s.
When Shout Factory released the series on DVD, they had to use ancient videotape masters, and even resort to pulling YouTube quality clips to reinsert into some episodes to make them as complete as they could get them.
So, Newhart would have to get the TNG/Cheers/Frasier remaster and reassembly treatment to look as good as it could again, and Disney... well, they're not known for that sort of thing the way Paramount is. And that's assuming the original film still exists and is accessible after all the hands it passed through over the years.
Any particular reason Decades skips those two?
All I know is that I have been collecting episodes from Decades for a couple years now and those two have never recorded. I think there were quite a few more missing from Hulu.

I love how when Latka finally reunites with Simka (his wife, played by always wonderful Carol Kane) later on, she immediately knows that he “did it with another woman!!”, lol.
Alex is trying to calm him down, how could she know? Gets three steps into his appointment "hi honey, I'm home" and pow, right in the kisser.
Christopher Lloyd is a goddamn revelation. Reverend Jim is hands down one of the top 3 comedy performances of all time.

Danny’s introduction on the show is one of the all-time great character entrances.
“Taxi” is one of my favorite sitcoms. I would encourage everyone to give it a watch. So many funny moments and episodes.
My favorite scene is Jim being abducted by aliens. "man. You guys are funny lookin!"
I know I looked it up once when Paramount Plus was CBS All Access. It was on there, but not the entire series, just random episodes from each season. Really fucking annoying, and something I still see to this day on other streaming services. Glad it's available in full now though. One of our local channels in NYC has a Taxi marathon on New Year's and I always try to watch some of it.
It's also on Pluto TV for free if you don't mind commercials.

WPIX 11 use to show this after South Park at like 3 am. The theme song has a real nostalgic hit and that it was far past bed time.

This has been on my watchlist for quite a while! Seems to be just in the US atm, based on JustWatch. Do hope they add it in other countries as well, and leave the rest of the world hanging, as usual.
