I love season 2.

People routinely complain about any number of seasons but I’ve always looked at it as a patchwork of all the things that go into the drug trade and failed drug war.

That season is actually pretty damn integral to the rest of the show, lmao. Sorry you didn't like it, but pass the plate over if you don't mind.

I freekin love S2. Funny as hell how the rivalry between McNulty and Rawls builds in this season. The church window rivalry. Frog. The murder mystery. And the acting by the Greeks is superb.

It’s one of my favorite seasons. Love how they showed how they brought the drugs into Baltimore through the ports.

Imagine unironically calling any season of the wire a 'sack of shit'. Troll post?

Ziggy is beyond annoying. I watched the series for the first time a couple years ago and had a few people tell me just get through S2 and it’s fine

It's a weaker season, and stands alone a little bit overall in the series. Definitely don't think it sucks. To say it's a "sack of shit" is ridiculous. It's why everyone disagrees with you. Shit, you know you have a hot take. It doesn't make you right, you're not all that important, nor your opinion. If your goal is to convince people "you're right" so much, you probably disliked season 2 because Ziggy is a mirror of yourself. Take the L and move on son.

When I watched The Wire for the first time I also wasn’t a fan of season 2. However, when I watched the show again for a second time years later it played a lot better for me. I’d even go so far as to say I think it’s excellent now.

orangemaroon25 t1_j9hw59g wrote

The first time I watched it I found it quite boring and I turned it off and went to watch something else. It's just so completely different from the first season. But then when I later tried it again and stuck it out through S2 it was actually great.

What's brilliant about The Wire is the realization that it's not just the local accounting of East Side and West Side drug dealers involvement in the drug trade, but rather shows certain aspects of how international crews operate low key behind the scenes, with no gawdy mansions, no super fancy vehicles, flashy clothes, and have the ability to operate in plain sight, as well as the protection and incentives they receive from various Federal organizations.

cnew22 t1_j9hxkyi wrote

Pretty much happened to me. My first watch I got stuck on it then came back to it a year later and got through it, and the rest of the show is incredible. Whenever I try and rewatch I get stuck again.

Op seems like an asshole but I very much agree that the season is boring.

All the pieces matter. Season 2 included. Personally, I like it a lot, but you are far from alone in thinking its the worst or 2nd worst season.

A lot happens that's important and/or entertaining even if you ignore the docks and the characters around that. Prop Joe, Valchek, Brother Muzzone, Cheese all take on much bigger roles or are introduced in this season. D'Angelo's storyline is resolved. McNulty is in full a-hole mode throughout, getting back at Rawls, throwing Daniels under the bus. Omar vs. the Barksdale crew heats up.

Also, I don't quite follow how you can say that nothing happens to the antagonists this season. One ends up dead - before he dies he sees everything he works for go up in smoke.
Another probably never getting out of jail. The rest of the union guys are thoroughly screwed by the end. Of course, Vondas and the Greek pretty much disappear for most of the rest of the series with nothing really having happened to them, but

I actually dropped the show after a couple of episodes of S2 because it wasn't hooking me.

You're actually motivating me to pick it back up, if the rest of the show is supposed to get better again! Really loved S1

Other than this being a mindless troll post, you can be assured of one thing: anyone who says "have fun being mad at a void. I don’t have notifications turned on. I’ve said my piece. I’m out" is watching every post added.

Ziggy top 10? In the fucking wire? Is that a joke? Personally I don't really even understand how anybody could like him at all, but fair enough if you do, different strokes and all that. But to put him in a top 10 of Wire characters is just fucking absurd in every way. Idek if he'd make a top 30

I wanted to give you a actual reply to your post than I saw this and was like nope I'm not doing this. Also maybe you should look up the word objectively.

Whatever season 2 is brilliant.

-notapony- t1_j9k9dp5 wrote

Ziggy is a better character when you know his story. I remember watching it live, and initially thought he was being portrayed as almost the dock's McNulty, a lovable fuckup who ultimately does the right thing. Instead he's just a fuckup who keeps getting in more and more over his head. He's the personification of the theme of the season, a generation who feels pressured to live up to the standards of the previous one, but without the support and infrastructure that the previous generation had. He would never have become his father, but he also didn't have the ability to see any other path for his life.

Season 2 was by far the best season

babywithahugedick t1_j9kh47n wrote

So much great shit happens in Season 2. Even if you don't like the docks, you've got Cold Blood Stringer running the Barksdale Org. You get the Omar courtoom scene. D'Angelo and Avon in prison. Herc in Rocawear. The tennis ball.

But the shit with the docks is brilliant too. The last 4 episodes of the season are a perfect crescendo. The cat and mouse game with the Greek in the hotel is fucking great.

And without the Greeks you don't get the iconic line from Sergei - "Did he have hands? Did he have a face? Yes? Then it wasn't us."

Season 2 is objectively better than 5 by a mile and might even be better than Season 1. Doesn't touch 3 or 4 but to say it drags the show down is one of the stranger stances I see people take regarding The Wire. I really feel like people don't like Season 2 mostly because of how comparatively white the cast is.
