Mad Men
Great show, btw.
Mr Robot
Silicon Valley
For All Mankind gets a lot of recs for this purpose.
"The Dropout" has many trainwreck moments etc., but I think there's enough focus on the professionalism, idealism etc. of the people around the protagonist to help with that. so: the show isn't pure... cringe & trainwrecks, at all.
Not a series but you might enjoy the documentary “Steve Jobs: The Man Inside the Machine,” if it’s the tech element that interests you
And if you were fine with the pace of HaCF's first season those first 5 eps of FaM (which are not fast paced) will be no problem.
The Americans feels similar (80s nostalgia with great set / wardrobe / soundtrack etc) but it's much bleaker / darker (obviously, given the subject matter). Similar in that there's a focus on a young couple with lots of ups and downs, with a couple kids (though the kids play a bigger role than in HaCf). Also, similar 80s computer tech stuff.
Writing / acting are excellent.
Two of my favorite shows ever. I'm confident you'd like it, even if plot wise it's nothing like HaCf.
Good Omens.
Not because it’s thematically similar. Just because it’s really, really good.
Agreed. I love The Americans and Halt and Catch Fire.
Station Eleven is what I watched right after. Started for Mackenzie Davis, stayed because it's genuinely one of the best shows I've ever seen. Excellent soundtrack, excellent story. Also on HBO.
