Honestly worth watching just for O’Dowd himself. He’s so incredibly charismatic. One of the best actors to come out of Ireland in recent years. Great bloke too.

I will watch anything he’s in!! He’s a joy. Loved him in Bridemaids, Family Tree, Crimson Petal and the White.

I've never met anyone else that has watched The Crimson Petal and the White.

He was brilliant in it, wasn't he? Cast against type, but was really impressive in the role.

I loved that show, the depiction of late Victorian England, the costumes, the music, the story itself. The book was really good too, explained the wife’s “madness.” I felt so bad for the women in the story except maybe for Mrs. Castaway.

Great premise, great writing, great acting. And Irish accents -- how can you go wrong with Irish accents? The article compares this show to Ted Lasso and I can definitely see that. But FWIW I think it shares more of a pedigree with The Good Place.

It feels like every half hour on Apple is a riff on the Ted Lasso premise to a certain extent. Sad middle-aged man faces existential dread/some sort of crisis or trauma, everybody's quirky.

It definitely has a strong philosophical undercurrent in it, so I'd agree it's closer to The Good Place in that regard.

Been loving Apple’s shows and have been a fan of O’Dowd ever since The IT Crowd, so I can’t wait to see this. If you’re also a fan of Chris, I highly recommend Get Shorty in which he plays a mob hitman.

I really wished that they finished Get Shorty. Chris and Ray were brilliant

Watched the first episode and it’s solid. The writing was alright, but the story has lots of potential and Chris O’Dowd is just as charming as you’d expect.

I like how at the end of each episode (so far) you find out what prize is bothering a certain character then the next episode is focused on them wrestling with it.

Makes it feel halfway between an anthology and serial show in a good way

Gloomy_Travel7992 t1_jeazwfy wrote

Yeah I figured with how the episodes are titled that something like that would be the case, it’s kinda silly to judge a show based on its first episode anyways, so the thoughts I had were very tentative.

Welp, I’m a dunce since your comment is how I found out it already premiered, so thanks!

Your no dunce, there’s plenty of tv shows airing right now. It’s hard to keep up. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

It’s good. I’m enjoying it, but I’m not finding it really as much of a comedy.

To me it feels a little more downbeat.

I was unsure of what to watch and threw this on, it's very good. Can't wait for the "Father's" episode, what a set up!

Wish this was promoted by Apple more than Shrinking; I think it's miles better.
