Hi.

Hope you’re doing well.

Many shows have this in some form or fashion but i think in recent times BoJack Horseman has been one of the standouts in regularly tackling a variety of social issues like addiction, gun violence, racism, sexism and self-destructive behavior in a fantastically nuanced and honest way while being accompanied by very sharp-witted satire and humor.

There are just so many episodes of this show that excel at this, but what are individual episodes of any show that particularly stand out to you in the way it tackles social issues?

Static Shock - "Jimmy" Even though that episode aired 20 years ago it's still relevant with all the mass shootings going on now.

That episode made a lot less sense in college. I thought fraternities were for everyone who wanted to join. In reality they are for the rich and well off students. Those who are struggling to pay for tuition aren't in fraternities or sororities. When you realize that you see that one guy messing with Carlton is just playing the struggling guy. I've seen that trope in various shows. The rich kid playing a poor kid kind of deal.

There was an episode of Thats So Raven centered on discrimination. Made me realize that racism is still in a problem in the US.

Another one dealt with the consequences of smoking.

Anti authoritarianism in Andor. Especially how the show doesnt try to do the "we will vote out the fascists" like what other shows like to do. It shows how militant movement is the only way to remove such a force
